aor stuck in reverse

the first item i looked for to start swap was the elusive turbo trans, none up here in ontario but i managed to find one in bc, vin said it was turbo s car with lsd etc, well it showed up a week or so ago and while i was looking over it to do the better linkage arm etc i noticed it was stuck in reverse gear, the cross shaft moves freely but it wont shift,cant really ship it back asits costly. I looked on youtube and one video shows the internals and there seems to be an intermediate gear that has a springloaded cone that stops it spinning to engage gears,  was wondering if it could probably be frozen in the cone due to sitting for 3 years? the car  hit a deer and wrecked front and side so it was functioning trans at time, i dont know how to pull one apart so it may have to go to tranny shop but thought i would ask here first,

So if you grab both axles same time and turn them, the input shaft turns too right?

Unfortunately i dont think it can be remedied without opening it up. Are you opposed to opening it?

not opposed to it but cant find any video or book explaining how, i have visions of pulling the centre case from the main body and bits falling out with zero chance of re assembling it again! lol

well it is fixed hopefully! took the side plate and springs out of the cross shaft to see if anything was visibly wrong, the shift lever that goes between the forks to move the gears had somehow got in front of them so it was holding reverse with no way to get neutral!, maybe from accident impact but hard to say really, we managed to flex the forks over to get the paddle part back into the forks , it seems to be shifting fine on the bench but will have to see when in use,
