HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

bellhousing pressure plate interference
Hi all,
I'm putting together another LS 944, and using a C5 Auto bell housing, and 1/4" spacer, between the engine and Bellhousing. I bought an early 2000's 5.7L LS1 Camaro flywheel, and pressure plate. The problem is the pressure plate hits the inside of the bellhousing, even with the 1/4 spacer. Since this has worked for others, I'm assuming I have the wrong pressure plate. What have people been using with success??
Thanks,
Gord.

Hey Gord,
I went a similar route to you. I purchased a c5 bellhousing and a 1/4" spacer from ICT Billet. I used SPEC Clutches clutch + pressure plate combo. I had the same issue as you with clearance, it was only interferring on the outermost edge of the pressure plate. I bolted the bellhousing to the engine and slowly spun it by hand to see where the interference was, then took a grinder with a flap wheel to the bellhousing. It was a very small amount of material that needed to be removed.

Re: bellhousing pressure plate interference
I am in the process of do an LS1 swap. I had the same thing happen with a SPEC PP. When I installed the bell housing the motor would not turn over, I mean couldn't even budge it. I swapped in an "identical" PP and did not have a clearance problem with the second SPEC PP. It must just be a manufacturing tolerance issue. There just ain't much space in these bell housings.

Re: bellhousing pressure plate interference
If you are using the 11" clutch, it will hit. The 10.5" clears fine. This only seems to be an issue with Spec clutches in how they built their pressure plate.
