HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Hi guys,

Having some trouble determining which hydroboost system to use. It seems like there is a lot of talk about the mustang HB, which is what I think I am leaning towards. Trying to get a price on it but that brings me to my question; which hydroboost off of what Mustang should I be looking for? Is there a certain year/model that has the best fitment for this type of conversion (LS1 in a 1985 NA 944)?

Secondly, has anyone been able to mount an LS1 with and LS6 intake, under the hood without having any cosmetic changes to the hood, and without using the spacers to drop the crossmember? I know the spacers give you some more wiggle room with things, and I know its a tight fit between other components, not just the hood, so I'd like to know if its been done or if the spacers to drop everything is the way to go?

Thanks,

AS15

You will have to use spacers. I got by with .25in and trimming the hood ribs. Didn't run hydroboost can't help you with that other than is seems the optimal solution is the mustang hydroboost coupled with the Porsche factory MC to keep the appropriate brake bias.

Also an 85 (early) and LS1. I ran a 3/8 spacer and notched the hood. Also use an LS6 intake, no problems. I run a BMW HB which mates directly to the 944 master cylinder. I don't get the Ford / adapter solution, why not run the BMW setup? I couldn't be happier with the result.

Can you post a picture from the BMW booster installation, and which BMW model.

Thanks

Probably due to the higher cost of the BMW vs the Mustang HB. Plus the extra stuff to mount and plumb on the BMW. Mustang HB is a much cleaner package overall. But that's just my 2 cents.

Another vote for the BMW system. Very simple mount with no clearance issues at the master cylinder, extra valve is a minor inconvenience. Brakes work fantastic. Found mine cheap at a local wrecker first try. Maybe just lucky but it was cheap, its been reliable and it works great.

I purchased the bmw system. I got a brand new master unit on line. My new 944 master bolts right on/ I had to sand the male part of the 44 unit to allow a nicer install fit, It was tight to begin with. You can by the ball new, the valve unit new and the tank from what i saw and did with out a problem. If cost is an issue with a little searching you can get used. My opinion brakes get all new.

If you use the Mustang hydroboost you should also buy the adapter so you can reuse your stock 944/951 master cylinder.

One advantage to the BMW system is the 944/951 master cylinder bolts right on with no adapter needed

Here is some good general information.  I have this system as well.  Apparently it was around for quite a while.  Mine came with all the other swap parts.  I haven't gone looking for new parts, but have heard that most if not all are still available from BMW.  I shudder to think what all these parts would cost new.

Nice, you got it figured out. Did you have any issues with teeing the lines together?

Hey Spence, yeah it seems to be working fine now, no more noise at least!  Unfortunately, I still haven't had the chance to drive it yet, tracking down other issues.  But this is what I came up with.  I was able to find this stainless steel T on eBay.  It was unique in that leg has a 90 degree bend in it, which helps to keep the lines closer together.  I put the T as close to the reservoir as possible, hoping that the pressure drop to the reservoir would discourage either of the lines back feeding the other.

So far so good, but at this point it's only run at idle on jack stands.  Still way more lines, connections, and potential areas for leaks that I would like, but at least everything is where I can keep an eye on it. Thanks for your help in the other thread!
