For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

968cs ls swap Empty 6 speed trans

Post  mdan1 Fri Feb 05, 2021 2:18 pm

how is the gearing with this motor? I have a 6.0 gto motor I am going to be swaping into my 968, but I was told the gearing was better with the 944 turbo s 5 speed? How is the speed/rpm with the motor/6speed trans?

Having done the 968 6 speed swaps on 944's with an LS, I can tell you that the 944 gearing is better. The 968 trans has basically the same gearing as an S2 trans, but with one more overdrive gear. The 6th gear then is similar to the turbo's 5th gear. You wind up doing a lot of rapid shifting in the lower gears. There is a company in Texas that re-gears the 968 trans and then it works great. But, not cheap. Only real reason to do the 968 swap is for the added strength to handle more torque and horsepower.

Best alternative, is a turbo trans with the taller .68 5th gear installed. That setup works really well.

I don't remember the rpm/mph numbers for each trans, but the turbo with .68 5th is about 1500 rpm lower than the stock 968 trans at 80 mph
