HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

944 with a 5.3 conversion
I've been spending my evenings at the shop working an 87 na. I am installing a 5.3 and dressing in the usual garb needed for the swap.

Oh, I also found some tubular manifolds that work perfect and clear the steering shaft with ease

Re: 944 with a 5.3 conversion
Yes,
Yes they will be for sale very soon, Thanks for asking....
I built these as a less expensive option than headers. I based the design off of the GTO cast iron manifolds, they should flow as well or better than a factory set and they clear the steering shaft very well.

Re: 944 with a 5.3 conversion
Hmmmm. Eric, let me ask you this, will the stock cast iron GTO's clear? I am doing a California swap and would love not to have to deal with modifying my steering shaft for a temporary solution.
Re: 944 with a 5.3 conversion
Not a chance, that's why I made those new ones. The GTO manifolds are to wide.
Re: 944 with a 5.3 conversion
Eric, is that your 87 we got that 2.5 from last year?

Eric
You could work up a second price and another for your oil pan with baffels.

Re: 944 with a 5.3 conversion
The oil pans are listed on my website.
The tubular manifolds are going to list for $349.99 with 3 bolt flanges, I can add V- Band clamp flanges for an additional $75 installed......

Re: 944 with a 5.3 conversion
I take it the 5.3L was chosen because how available they are and the pricing? Is it the aluminum block 5.3?
I'm interested in seeing how it turns out and what power you are seeing from the setup.
Looks pretty good so far.

Re: 944 with a 5.3 conversion
The price was right on this one!
Thank
Eclou !
It's an iron block and we will be putting it on the dyno just to see what it'll do. I'm not exspecting huge 400 hp + numbers ...... we are just looking to see what a stock 5.3 will put to the ground. The base line on the 2.5 stock 4 banger put down a whopping 114 hp and 114 ft of torque!

Re: 944 with a 5.3 conversion
I think even horsepower tv did a bit on building up a 5.3L but I am not sure how it turned out.
I had seen one recently for $1k but it had only something like 40k on it. Sub $1k they get tempting. That is not for the aluminum block model though.

Re: 944 with a 5.3 conversion
5.3's are great motors. similar to ls1 power without all the expense. once you take the manual fan off the 5.3 and put electric fans on it, you gain 5-8hp. on a stock 315hp 5.3 with electric fans, headers, ls1 intake and k/n you are around 350chp, which is ls1 territory. for a lot less money usually. I have seen 5.3's go for 250- 1500. depending on miles and iron block or aluminum. I personally have a friend who owns a Chevrolet truck salvage yard near me. he gives me 5.3's as he has over a 100 of them. to him and other yards like his, these engines are likely surplused and they are willing to work on the prices. recently he gave me a l92 6.2 aluminum block 403hp truck motor. lets just say he is a "good" friend lol.
