HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Re: 944 ls1 brake booster?
that mustang booster is looking better and better, it could be years before someone near me parts out the right car with the booster. that realy would be the best way to go then you get all the lines and little bs that jsut makes for a pain in the ass when you dont have them. lots of parts like that anticipate you reuseing stuff

Re: 944 ls1 brake booster?
That should not be an issue, that will fit under the cereal bowl if you are using that for your mount, and if you are using Rob's, it should and barely penetrate the firewall, if at all. Rob's got a nice setup he designed.

i have a 99 sierra with hydroboost and it is shapped just terribly for this set up. it is also pretty big. i would imagine thats why it isnt used.

Great score on the BMW system! I just painted my modified cereal bowl will post pics once I can touch it. I recommend you replace the "bomb" and seals in the booster. I'll dig up links on how to do the seals and a good source for them if you are interested.

Booster Mount
Here's what I did to ,ake a mount for the H31 booster.
I cut a plate out of steel to fit the cut down cereal bowl. The resulting angle is 12 degrees. This clears the engine and my truck coils, with the booster centered like the stock vacuum servo. I welded nuts on the back side of the plate for booster mounting bolts. The relief cut is a just in case the engine rocks a bit.
More pics to come as I finish this last major mechanical item on my conversion.

Learn something else for this swap every single day. I assume this is easier to install and setup prior to getting the motor in......

Re: 944 ls1 brake booster?
I don't think it matters too much, since I opted to remove the studs and install nutcerts in the firewall. Everything installs just fine with the LS in there, although removing the valve cover makes it a little bit easier.

Re: 944 ls1 brake booster?
Sorry im getting around so late to this (school) but i just got done mounting up my bmw system to my car and the way i did it was i took an aluminum plate and cut it in sort of a kite shape to have a corner at each of the firewall holes and space for the 4 booster holes, then i drilled a hole for the booster where it would clear the engine. To bolt the booster to the plate i threded the 4 holes to hold it down and cut the bolts flush so my system is flush to the firewall. To mount my pedal all i did was throw my porsche fork on the bmw and drilled a hole in the pedal arm. Everything fits and works great for what i can tell so far, i will try to post pictures soon.

Re: 944 ls1 brake booster?
I'd like to see pics! Instead of mounting it flush, I used the 12 degree angle for two reasons, to follow the sweep of the brake pedal, and so my reservoir sits level. I have never seen a BMW booster installed in person, but assume there is an angle since all the BMW reservoirs I saw for these H31 units are angled like the Porsche unit. I used a Porsche reservoir since I had a new one laying around.

Re: 944 ls1 brake booster?
Very nice work, looks like it belongs there! I just mentioned the 12 degree angle as it was discussed here that some people experienced premature M/C wear without it. I have no experience with this setup yet, and whether the 12 degrees is needed for the H31 booster. Your setup could easily be modded to accommodate the angle if required. Keep the pics coming and let us know how it works out for you.

Re: 944 ls1 brake booster?
Did a little reading about this system last week, seems everyone is using the 'H31' system which came on the E32 BMW's, basically the 7-series from '88-94. I think the same hydraulic booster was also used on the E23,E24 and E28. But i cant say if the other parts are the same such as the regulator.
This is a a nice write up on the system;

These links are helpful also;

I am still trying to decide between the BMW and Ford hydroboost, though i did just buy a Tilton bias valve for the Ford setup so i guess you know what i am leaning towards.

Re: 944 ls1 brake booster?
I personally am using a booster from a 1982 BMW 740i the only difference I am aware of with this vintage as compared to the 88-94 model is that it is resesed into the fire wall a few inches. No real difference in mounting or function.

Re: 944 ls1 brake booster?
It appears that would be a Girling vacuum booster, the hydroboost is made by ATE. Look for boosters from 86-88 735 series.
