HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Please help! AC kind of cool but not cold...
I searched and couldn't find anything that helped me.
The car is an 87 944 with an LS2 and it does have a LS1 compressor which is brand new. I took it to Firestone after I replaced the compressor, it has full pressures with no leaks. The problem is that it blows kind of cool but not even remotely cold. I checked the heater switch that usually breaks, but its fine. the vents are actuating properly. Not sure what else to check. If anyone could please help me, I would appreciate it.

AC
Are you using the LS compressor with the Porsche AC system?
If you are, did you modify the compressor to convert it from variable pressure to fixed pressure?
Search earlier threads for further information on this.

I'm having the same issue, but last year the AC was super cold, this year not so much.
I suspect I have a leak, but have other issues I need to sort out first.

It is an ls1 unit, brand new, so not modded. Do you really think that could be the issue? where it does blow cooler air, but not cold?

Re: Please help! AC kind of cool but not cold...
Zeus, my AC works great. I did the compressor mod fliermike mentioned before I installed it so I don't know how cold the air would be w/o the mod.
My guess, though, is that because you didn't mod the compressor, it is now automatically running in it's least-cold/least compression/least engine-drag configuration all the time. Modding the compressor plug makes it run in it's most-cold configuration all the time.
You can set your AC to run the variable compressor as a variable compressor, I think you have to add a temp sensor or something inside your evaporator that triggers the swage plate in the variable compressor.
The easier way is to mod the compressor plug.
fwiw, one way to mod the plug is to weld the end of the plug shut, another way is to remove the two middle o-rings from the plug. Anyway, I removed the o-rings.

I would put a set of gauges on it and see what your pressures are, in a 134A system you should see 2x ambient temp + 50 on the high side and low 30's on the low side. IF you havent modded your compressor and arent setup for variable displacement thats likely your issue.

fliermike, I searched for the AC variable threads and could find any. My search-fu skills must be rusty, can you post the links?

Doc, here's page 2 of a long thread on AC. Page 2 talks about variable compressors.

and it has a link (from Anthropraxis) to a great article with pics on converting a VC compressor to a fixed compressor.
