HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

About to go bigger...
Just got a great deal on a brand new set of 993TT Big Red calipers, pads and rotors.
The hat offset may not be right on the rotors, but I figure some 993 guy will want them and I can replace them with 965 rotors and away I'll go.
Direct bolt on to my 944 Turbo S, which is even better!

Nice find, Doc! These hats will make those 993 rotor rings work. But yeah, they're more money than new 965 rotors.

Re: About to go bigger...
Yeah, tell me about it, especially since it's getting to be very difficult to find the Big Red and Big Black calipers. Porsche is out of them and apparently their supplier is having some sort of difficulty making them, so who knows when they'll be back in stock.
I saw those hats, they won't work on my car since it's an S, so it has the M030 stuff. So I'll either have to source another set of hats or get the 3.6 965 rotors. Or maybe I'll get lucky and the rotors that are coming will directly bolt on...

Re: About to go bigger...
You don't think they'll work? I'm running the Turbo S spindles, hubs, calipers and rotors. I thought I could go 993tt calipers and rotors with those hats. I guess the question is: did they put the extra 3mm of offset into the hat or into the non-m030 caliper adapter?

Re: About to go bigger...
My understanding is the 993TT rotors should bolt right onto my M030 stuff, but I haven't done it and don't know anyone who personally has, so until I do I'm not totally sure. I KNOW the 965 3.6 rotors bolt right on to the M030 and fit perfectly. I'll know by the end of the month if the 993TT rotors do.
The 993TT Big Red and the 928GTS Big Black calipers are a direct bolt on to the M030 stuff.

Will do. Stuff is getting shipped to me tomorrow, so it'll be my project to install it the last weekend of this month.

I was supposed to be getting a set of those calps to mock up on the 330mm Cayenne rotors. I've been running the Cayenne rotors under the Lexus calps for a while now
The Germans made the M030 hubs 3mm taller than the NA/951 Hubs
Years ago I cheated and made a 3mm hub spacer and adapter for an NA hub/spindle. I should have recorded the dimensions.....hindsight

Doc,
Do you collect data while on the track (traqmate or such)? I'm interested in seeing data on the new setup relative to the turbo S brakes that you were running.

Nope, I haven't gotten to that level yet, just lap times and observations on wear. I was getting 1 season out of a set of rotors and pads. I'd wear the pads out and crack the rotors.
I upgraded mostly because it wasn't really any more expensive than replacing the pads/rotors I already had. Figured the bigger heat sinks wouldn't hurt...

If youre driving your car on the street as well, I strongly suggest to anyone with 993TT brakes to get the vibration dampers as well. These brakes chatter and squeal quite a bit. But measure your pistons just to be sure before ordering.
964-351-096-00-M260 = 44mm
964-351-096-01-M260 = 36mm

993TT and 996TT front calipers have different piston sizes.

I've got a used set of these dampers if anyone wants them. Size may matter but noise really doesn't.

Re: About to go bigger...
Gotcha, that's probably why you needed the Lindsey hats. I think with M030 stuff they're a direct bolt on. I'll find out next Friday when I try...

Re: About to go bigger...
I have big blacks, 993TT rotors and Lindsey aluminum hats, the calipers are mounted on Lindsey adapters to 1994 968 spindles, basically standard turbo or S2 spindles, with the latest version of the hubs. All fit pefectly, interesting that the M030 hubs are 3mm thicker, good to know,. I got my big blacks new from Sunset Porsche, if I remember correctly, they were less than half as much a piece cheaper than Lindsey's price for big reds. Plus I wanted black calipers

Re: About to go bigger...
Yes, the Big Blacks are $290 each from Sunset, the Big Reds are $450ish. Problem is Porsche is literally OUT of Big Black and Big Red calipers. Not they gotta come from Germany, literally Porsche has to make more, than they gotta come from Germany.
So unless the vendor has them sitting on their shelves, they can't get them. I tried to order the Big Blacks from Sunset last week and discovered this. Luckily I happened into a brand new "kit" that someone was selling on Rennlist that included Big Reds, street pads, and rotors.

Re: About to go bigger...
Got them on the car last night. Rotors were 1 piece 965 rotors, so they bolted right up. Everything fit fine, no problems. Did a full brake fluid flush and the car should be good to go.
Managed to squash my left pinky in a jack stand though, have a blue finger nail and it hurts like hell. Working today is going to suck.
