HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Thanks Spence, that's a good idea. It's kind of an awkward space, but maybe I could get a cold chisel on the bent-over side and try to bend it back a little to loosen it up.

I broke my car - Page 2 Empty stage8 bolts

Post  gamman on Sun May 08, 2011 1:15 am

I have a set of stage8's sitting in my garage, never used, still in the package.

make me an offer, I sold my car, but am always trolling to find another one. I never got around to road racing mine. Too chicken.

anyway, my paypal and email is my user name with a 3 at the end, at yahoo dot com

if you can't get it, pm me.

Hey, I went to EASY this saturday and met your car's previous owner. He bought another 944 Turbo and an older 911.

Craig H? He's been great, always happy to help when I have questions. What's EASY?

And it looks like an early 80's 911 SC is going to joing our fleet pretty soon, too....

EASY is an autodismantler in Emeryville, Ca. 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month a group of Porsche owners go and show their car there, as well as pickup any new/used parts they need. I got there every once in a while, but the 944 showing is very poor. Crying or Very sad Once your up and running and if you want to go let me know I'll go too.

My car is down right now for a week or so, I'm adjusting my rocker arms.

Well, the dang sheared-off bolt is still stuck. The cold chisel idea didn't do much. I'm planning on removing the axle stub so I can get it on my drill press, or get another bolt welded onto the remains of the sheared-off bolt, or something. Man that axle nut's on tight! I will have to use a breaker bar. I ordered a new axle nut.

Your going to have to drill it out. What you should have done is cut the head off the bolt pulled the stub axle and removed it by tightening the stud until it fell out. Now the bent part is jammed in there and it'll never come out. I hope the threads on the stub axle are good.

Try buying a couple of left handed drills. Sometimes the broken bolt will heat up while drilling and the sharp left hand drill bites hard and it turns out the bolt.McMaster Carr has them.

Excellent idea!

Now, if I could only get my axle nut off...

I have a welder friend who has unfucked many a situation for me by welding onto a broken bolt/stud with enough slag to make a raised tab. He then uses vice-grips on the tab and backs the bolt right out. It takes him less than 10 minutes

Thanks eclou, I got the stub axle out this AM and will mess around with it a little on my drill press and my grinder. If that doesn't work I'll go to a welder.

I saw a good youube video the other day where a guy had a sheared-off bolt and he built up a little mound of slag with his wire welder and then welded a nut onto the slag, and then just ratcheted the bolt out.

I'm not sure a nut would work here as the CV joint bolts are really close to the rim of the stub axle, but probably welding another bolt onto the sheared-off bolt would get the bolt's hex up high enough to clear the rim.

PS: To remove the axle nut I had a breaker bar on it and a 10' piece of pipe. My 90lb son could hang on the end of the pipe w/o budging the nut - that's 900ft-lbs of torque! We got it off when he hung on the pipe and I pounded on the socket with a hammer.

I bought them for my car after I had the bolts back out as I was driving. Money well spent!

I'm running a Vitesse Racing stage 3R kit [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

3" exhaust, 993T big red brakes, factory LSD etc. It should make 340ish rwhp, would love to compare it to my old LS1 car sometime.

As you can see, I like white with dark wheels! This one is also an 87.
