HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

C5 Corvette wheels on a 944
I was going this route before finding Turbo Twist II wheels.
I will still make adapters for the wheel swap if you guys figure the dims that the adapters need.
I have seen adapters for 5x130 to 5x4.75" pattern, but have never seen any that have a hub centric ring on the Chevy side of the adapter. I will only put my name on something that is built solid and correctly with hub centric rings on both sides. Gt1Scca says he knows someone that put them on a 928 with great results, so why not the 944?
Come on let's build some sh$t....
I am privy to these ones but thicker adapters can be made for the later 5 spokes that have deeper backspacing.....
Reason for edit.....PORH

Low Cost solution
Booyah.... I could machine these down to an inch, but not sure if the inner diameter had enough material to leave 1/4" tall hubcentric ring for the Vette Wheel.....But would work and you can't beat the price!

Oh those are sweeeeet.
Can you do plastic engraving XS??? Maybe put the P-crest on the wheel caps???
Or, put PORH on the rear caps.

Engrave
RRS.......LMAO!
on a wheel no doubt, Fekkin genious.
I can engrave anything with a couple different fonts. If a true basic forum kit comes about which I can see is not far off, I will engrave 944 Hybrids on any billet I do for this Forum's support. If Renegade slanders me one more time, then these next batch of C5 adapter plates will become "creative"....

If the 944-C5 wheel spacers can be 1" thick, I think some 1-offs are definitely a go. I have found some billet (T-6061) on the cheep at the size I would need

Those would definitely work. The fronts would have a couple of mm's more offset, No problem.
A double-sided hubcentric adapter set would be icing.

Re: C5 Corvette wheels on a 944
Hmm... but how much do these wheels weigh? I have 16x9 rear aftermarket (made in Japan) cast Fuchs on my 944 and they are heavy; something like 24-25...lbs (the ones in my avatar are the 16x7 OEMs). I mention this because I could really feel the difference (unsprung bounce) from my OEM 16x7 forged Fuchs (something like 18lbs) I used to have on there. The fakes do look too good to take off though.

Re: C5 Corvette wheels on a 944
That seems like real cheap for those replica wheels brand new. Do they give any weight information about them. I personaly think 11 rear and 9.5 front is a little big for the 944 but I guess I could settle if they fit right. Is the offeset such on the corvete wheels that there is room for adapters even on the late offset 944 or is this o nly possible on the early offset cars.

Re: C5 Corvette wheels on a 944
C5 wheels have an offset of 54 and 58mm, a difference of 31 / 35mm (on early 944 applications w/ a 23mm offset). The late 944 with a 53mm offset doesn't offer enough space for 1.25" adapters. The later C6 wheels, however, have as much as 64-68mm offset. C6 wheels may work on a late offset 944 with ~1.0" adapters.

Re: C5 Corvette wheels on a 944
Wheel width has a large affect on offset numbers doesn't it? Offset is distance that the hub face is offset from the center line of the wheel correct? So if you have 2 wheels with the same "offset" but one is 2 inches wider than the other won't the 2 inch wider wheel stick out an extra inch further than the thinner wheel? I thought I had all this offset stuff figured out, but maybe I don't. Seems like we need to be considering the width of the wheel along with that offset number to figure out if they will fit correctly.

Did you read this?
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
17 X 9 / 18 X 10 will fit.
Also, all width, offset, etc. was considered when working out the early C5 adapter details.

Re: C5 Corvette wheels on a 944
Yes I did read the other thread. I actually had the last post in the thread. It didn't talk about wheel offsets directly in the thread.
Looking at the diagram you posted, it looks like the corvette wheel will stick out further by about 3/4 of an inch. That is what I was talking about in the previous post.
Have adapters been made and these wheels put on a car yet?

Re: C5 Corvette wheels on a 944
Nope.
Lugmanusa.com sells the adapters, and I just haven't gotten to the wheels yet. From the research I have done, they should fit...BUT, theory and application are two different animals. To be 100% certain, they should be mounted and verified. A 1.0" adapter may compensate for the 3/4" difference you foresee at the fender.
I mainly went to the trouble above just to determine if it was possible.
If I missed something, I'm sure I can work it out when I fit the C5 wheels.
Worse case, the hubs can be plug-welded and re-drilled, but I don't really think that will be necessary on the early offset.
