For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

some more info from another forum...
"you can't stick a late tank in an early car unless you change the strap location pick up points, cut the crossmember out, then make it a bolt in, tap the longitudinals, match the resistance signal from the new sender to the old gauge......"

For me to use a newer tank I would remove a section of the floor and replace that section with the floor from a newer car. This gives me the locators and factory mounting points. The relocation of the strap is minor. As for fuel gauge I am running all Auto meter gauges. Simply change the unit to a auto meter unit. Adjust mounting  holes and good to go. The cross member removal is 5 min.  I have a piece of 1.75 dom tubing running between my shock mounts and frame. So still have good rugity in the ass end. Plus my tran's hangs off of it.. I appreciate the info.

It's great to hear you are back working on your car. But, it's even more awesome that your wife is clear of cancer. Congrats to you both.

Great ...I'm most likely going to do the same to mine as I've already done the LS3 swap over a year ago
and love it.. 530 hp to the wheels is a blast but original 951 trans won't last forever. Thanks for taking the time to do this write up, great pictures..

Question, i am finally happy with my motor and trans location. How close is to close on the oil pan to rack. Mine is a manual rack. I have at best a 1/8". i am going to shave down the top of rack a bit. i really dont want to raise my motor any more as it does create an issue with my brake MC which i will have to move up and change pedal mount accordingly. I have tacked my new trans support and plates in place. I need to finalize this so i can set the supports to the trans for welding.

if your solid mounted it should be fine. if your on urethane its cutting it close, and with rubber mounts is will sag and hit it.

when i did my swap i had just over 1/8" at the tightest spot with urethane bushings and it never hit. i eventually changed my bushings out for stiff rubber ones and it only took about a month before the oil pan was on the rack. i ended up making a 1/4" thick shim to put between the frame and mount and ive never had it hit since.

Thank you for the reply. I removed the rack and clearenced the top section. I have a solid quarter inch now. I have tacked in primary trans support next is the secondary support at the back to stop the trans from twisting.

So rad mount is ready for finish and my alum rad is ready for pickup. had mounting tabs etc welded on. My main rear cross member plates are ready as well. With the plates this will finally allow complete button up of the chassis and the transmission, then finally i can set the car down for the first time in 8 or 9 years.
With the rad complete this now moved me closer to that first start up. slow and steady.

Finely hydro boost fitting and location resolved. I will have to relocate my clevis up about 1/2or so up to allow push rod to be parallel to the unit. Question BMW unit. What's the best location for the reservoir?.
