HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

I'd love to have pics. I literally haven't seen the car since July 9th. Had the misfortune of the shop having another project car there ahead of mine, so they didn't really start working on mine until a month or so ago.

Then their lead fabricator went from full time to only working 1 day a week. That certainly didn't hasten the completion of my car...

Been awhile since my last update. Tech is back working on my car full time since he's on semester break. Hope to get the car back to me next week!

Radiator is mounted. Ducting to the aux and main radiators and oil coolers done. Hood vents installed. 951 MC with Ford hydroboost adapter installed. All the radiator soft lines that were running close to the pulleys have been replaced with hard lines. Fittings and lines are at the shop to plumb the aux radiator.

What we're waiting on is a custom fan shroud for the main radiator to be built. Need it not only as a shroud but also as a mounting point for my 16" Spal fan. Apparently my last shop cut off the mounts for this 16" fan when they put on my dual 11" fans.

CSU (Colorado State Univ) Engineer Formula team is making the shroud for me, which is kinda cool. They say it'll be done this Friday.

So if that is the case, then the shroud and fan can be installed, the aux radiator can be plumbed, fluids added and burped then make sure all is working properly, then back in my garage!

hydroboost

Doc,
Would you mind sharing the details of the hydroboost set-up. I have yet to find a thread that details the plumbing of the system. Or maybe point me in the right direction.

Thanks much

Hooking up the Ford hydroboost is pretty easy, basically the hydroboost unit is plumbed inline between the pump and steering rack. To summarize;

-Power steering pump high pressure out to hydroboost inlet

-Hydroboost high pressure outlet to steering rack high pressure inlet

-Hydroboost low pressure outlet (barbed fitting) T's into steering rack low pressure return to reservoir

-Steering rack low pressure return back to reservoir (with above mentioned T)

There are a few good threads on here about it; look at the picture Supes posted

I could have sworn i posted all the fittings i used to connect my f-body pump to the hydroboost unit, PM me if you need it and ill see if i can find the post.

Fan shroud is completed and at the shop. So that and the fan need to be installed, plumb the aux radiator, fill and burp, pull my Tilton proportioning valve in favor of a Porsche 5/33 valve and then test drive to make sure all's well, then finally back to my garage.

Thanks guys, I'm hopeful I get the car back at the end of this week. Talked to the shop today and decision was made to stick with the Tilton proportioning valve.

Easier to fine tune the brake bias with it and less time/money spent trying to reinvent the wheel so to speak. They're going to take a look at the Boxster ABS install the previous shop (not a porsche shop like this one is) to make sure all other proportioning valves were removed and all is well.

Ok guys, how about some more picture porn?

Here's the custom radiator shroud with fan mounted as well as the new hard radiator pipes that were fabricated so there's more clearance with the pulleys/belt.

The oil cooler and PS cooler are V mounted on the drivers side behind the fog light/grill and ducted from there. The aux radiator is V mounted on the passenger side behind the fog light/grill and ducted from there...

So the tech that was working on my car walked away from the shop and his job last Wednesday. So my car isn't done. The only good news is all the fabrication work is basically done and everything else is turning wrenches stuff, which the other tech and the owner of the shop should be doing to my car anyways.

The radiator/shroud/fan has been installed and everything clears. I'm taking this opportunity to replace the 25 year old, yellowed/opaque, coolant expansion tank. Figured there won't be a better time since it's empty right now.

So the owner and other tech plan on looking over my car tomorrow to see what all needs to be finished and then hopefully get on it. Just one thing after another...

Well talked to the shop owner yesterday, he has all his techs working on my car right now. That's the good news. The bad news is they're re-doing the hard radiator pipes that his previous guy made. Apparently he's not happy with the way they run/can't figure out what his old tech was planning.

So he's got a fabricator coming in today to remake all that. He's also redoing the brake hoses going into my hydro boost to eliminate some of the bends.

So while I'm happy the car has the entire team working on it, I'm unhappy to hear work is getting redone as that means completion and delivery to me are further delayed.

Well, much progress was made this past week. Ducting to the oil cooler and auxiliary radiator are done, brake cooling ducts are routed and put in place. Fabricator needs to make up two more pipes for the radiators and then it should be ready to fire.

What'll slow me down a little is the shop owner is going in for some surgery on Monday and I'm not quite sure when he'll be back at it...

Owner is back on his feet and working on my car.  Having some issues finding a TIG welder who will actually keep an promise and show up to weld my two hard radiator pipes.

Meanwhile the brake ducts are being mounted and ducts to all the coolers are being made.

Shop asked me to source a new bumper cover, this is what happens when too many hands play around with your stuff.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

So I contacted Luis from Lart's Parts and he's sending me another unmolested Guards Red front bumper cover...

"New" bumper from Lart's Parts arrived today.

Shop needs to get it fitted and have the welder make up two hard radiator pipes, then fill/burp the system and make sure everything is working. Then it's done!

So the good news is that the hard radiator pipes have been fabbed up. Everything was fitted (and it fit!) and the system was filled and burped. The shop put a pressure tester on it and let the car sit over night.

When they came back the next morning they found that there was a leak at one of the welds for the custom end tank on the secondary radiator. So out that had to come to get rewelded/pressure checked and the pipes too.

Then everything will go back together and the bumper will be fit. Then the car gets a test drive and should be ready to come back to me.

Feel like I'm finally on the home stretch here...

Good to hear the shop seems to be going slow and checking the details. Every potential issue they address now is one less issue you might struggle with after you have it back. Remember, the last 20% of the project always seems to take 50% of the time.
