For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Well, I've decided to name my car Eleanor.  Rolling Eyes

The hits keep coming. Found out today that the stroker crank hits the windage tray. Didn't even think of that possibility. So now need to clearance the windage tray. Sigh. More time without the car.

After watching your High Plains Raceway YouTube video just last night, I can see how this downtime must be driving you nuts!!  Nice bit of driving BTW cheers

Not sure how your stroker crank created interference with the windage tray  scratch  ...I always thought the throw on the stroker rod journals got shorter to increase cylinder volume and rpm potential.   However I admit, I have no first hand knowledge of stroker engines.

On the other hand, I do know that switching to ARP main cap studs always creates interference issues with the stock LS1 windage tray.  All of the mounting holes and the oil pick tube mount must be drilled out to fit the larger ARP stud diameter...

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

...and you must create some clearance for the inboard main cap stud at the center main bearing... see the red dot in the first pic.

All are pretty quick fixes.

Apparently it's the ARP rod bolts that are causing the issue. Tried to space out the windage tray, but it hits the oil pan then. Will make the holes larger...

Motor Porn pics.  Interference is when the rods come down through the stroke, since the throw is longer with the bigger crank.  We're going to cut windows in the windage tray to clear the rods.  Also have a set of RHS as cast heads, which look incredible!

Shop is hoping to have it in the car and running by end of next week.

Well, the windage tray has been clearanced and the oil pan is on. Engine is in the bay with the torque tube hooked up and drivers side header installed.

Just need to install everything else, replace the front wheel bearings, replace a bunch of the dash cluster bulbs that some previous owner removed (hopefully I don't see a xmas tree of warning lights), break it in and tune it.

Sounds like it's all coming together nicely! I'm wishing I had your RHS heads!

So what is your final engine size now with the stroker crank...and did you make a corresponding cam change to feed all that new volume?

It's a 383. I stayed with the same cam as I didn't want to introduce another variable. Once this motor is in and running fine if I feel I need more power I'll do a cam change this off season.

Well, went through another little hiccup. Shop got the motor back together after clearancing the windage tray and in the car. Then went to hand crank the engine to build oil pressure, only to discover it wasn't creating oil pressure.

I contacted the engine builder, who immediately (and correctly) diagnosed the issue. Turns out the O ring on the oil pick up had somehow gotten displaced.

So that's taken care of now and I'm happy to say the motor is building oil pressure and does run.

Bad news is now I have to wait for an open slot on the dyno for the car to get tuned and complicating matters is the tuners wife is uber preggo right now.

Hopefully get the car back in a week or so, so I can get the requisite 500 miles on the motor and shake it out before my last (!!) track weekend of the season Oct 10-11.

OK, checked out the car today. The engine runs and it's got probably 50 miles on it. Preliminary dyno tune is done at the builder imposed 5000 rpm level.

Motor is very healthy and is making +40 ft lbs and +40whp over the last one, even with no timing and not having the rings seated. It's making over 400ft lbs of torque to the wheels now!

Plan is for me to get 500 break in miles on it, then it'll go back to the dyno for the final tune.

Normally I would, but the tuning hasn't been done for the top end of the rev range at all yet.

Good news! ABS on the car is fixed, had to move some grounds near the Boxster ABS pump/ECU.

Should be picking the car up tomorrow, they need to play a bit with the tune to activate the second radiator fan and tie up a few loose ends.

Then it's put some mileage on it, change the oil/filter, bleed the brakes and get the final tune done October 10th.

I think they were in the wrong spot.  Not really sure.

Look what I brought home this afternoon!  Have to do 500 shakedown miles, then it's going back to the shop to address the bang list October 9th.  Final dyno tune October 10, then hitting HPR October 11-12.

Not going for the "street sleeper" look?  Cool
I've seen all your parts but not many car pics.
Car looks great!

Nah, I've never really had luck with the magnetic stuff sticking to the car. Figured I'd just put the time trial numbers and other needed stickers on the car and never have to worry about it again.

Wanted to take the 948 to work today to start getting mileage on it, but when I was driving it around yesterday I noticed that the fans aren't keeping control of the coolant temps at low speeds.

They are coming on, but I'm not sure if both are coming on at "High" speed. How can I check the fan switch to make sure it's working?

Setup now is two 11" Spal fans, moving more air than my old single 16" Spal, so they should be more than adequate. When I had the car back in the spring, temps were under control, so something has failed...

Yup. They've done great work on the car, just need to tie up a few loose ends here and do a final tune.

How are they wired? i.e. through the existing 944 relay and temp sender, existing relay and ecm or from ecm and standalone relay?
Both fans should be running on low speed and high.

944 fan switch and relay, controlled by the Camaro PCM. There's a low speed and high speed dual fan control through the PCM that I'm using.

So to confirm, both fans run together at either speed?
Have you checked that both fans are wired correctly and that they are both pulling air?

Electrical and simple mechanical problems aside....based on my experience the CFM of each type of fan can't be compared on paper alone. I measured the flow of various combos to determine what was best for my setup. I would suggest comparing to the two.
One other thing to note, assuming you are using a shroud to close off the other areas of the rad, the two 11" fans have less open area than one 16" fan....11 square inches less.

Not using a shroud, didn't on the single 16" fan either.

Didn't get a chance to work on the car yesterday, we had a huge rain/hail storm and I was busy dealing with a ground water issue that was trying to flood my basement. Then I worked on the brakes on my DD.

Hopefully today I can start to troubleshoot the fans on the 948...

Got the car final tuned today, running up into the limits of the cam right now.  Made 421rwhp and 410ft lbs of torque.  That's 50 ft lbs more torque than before and you can really feel it.  Huge gains under the curve, hitting the track tomorrow, can't wait to feel it.

Unfortunately my hood scoop/louvers showed up today, vs Wednesday like I needed them to, so I won't have time to install them.

I'm also having an issue with the Boxster ABS, light stays on no matter what, doesn't seem like the pump is cycling.  I'm beginning to wonder if I bought the wrong pump, anyone have the part # of the Boxster pump that they have up and running in their car?
