HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Does it matter where the stock GM temperature sender is located? There is a provision on either head for it. I thought I would put the porsche TS on the drivers side and the GM temp TS on the passenger side. The only reason for me to do it this way is to clean up wiring.

Any reason not to do this?

I don't think that it would make any difference, but I don't understand why it would clean up the wiring?
If you use the original engine harness it is made to fit to the correct GM water tempeerature sensor location (front of driver's side head). For the Porsche water temperature location, I placed it on the rear of the passenger side engine head. I followed the RH method of drilling and tapping the LS1 head so that the Porsche water temperature guage could be mounted. This was much easier than I had expected. While the LS1 was mounted on the engine stand, I rotated it so that the hole in the block was pointed down. In that way the majority of the metal chips would fall away with gravity. I also thoroughly vacuumed the block after tapping the hole. One interesting point, I determined that the thread on the water sensor was a 9/16"-18. This seemed odd for a metric car, but I checked and rechecked and even drilled and tapped a test hole to be sure and it is definitely an english thread. I did not have the recommended 33/63" tap drill, so I used a 1/2", which worked just fine.

Thanks. I am not using the stock harness. I can have these run anywhere I want. I just figured since the ECU will be in the passenger footwell, the new harness will be coming out right there at the back of the passenger side engine. The 14 pin connector is on the drivers side and I can just run the wires from there to the front of the drivers side.

Ted,
run a couple of extra wires in your harness for the factory gauges and bring them in the same fire wall hole as the main harness, then pull up the fuse box and cut off the 14 pin connector. pull all of those wires into the fuse box area and connect on to the wire behind the fire wall. Makes for a clean in stall , just remember to put a little sealer in the hole where the wires originally went out.

The stock GM temp sensor is where the head would be hottest, I'd leave it there, use the passenger side for the Porsche gauge.
