HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

4 point harness Empty 4 point harness

Post  cfgioja Tue Aug 03, 2010 11:01 pm

i am looking for a set of 4 point harnesses and was not sure what to buy. I would like to find ones with metal cam locks not plastic stuff. I need to find something to replace the stock harness since the late car does not have the buckle on the tunnel like my early car.

I am not sure if it is worth the sparco name or if an off brand is still has good?

What are teh opinoins of the masses?

Sure you want to go with 4 point harnesses? What is your intended use? The region I run DE with will not allow 4 point harnesses, have to have a sub-belt.

A submarine belt. Its the one that goes through the legs, keeps you from "submarining" if you come to a sudden stop.

A sub-belt is a five or six point harness that has the strap(s) that run between your legs. This strap(s) stops you from "submarining" or sliding out of the harness through the bottom in a collision. While 4 point harnesses are certainly safer than your typical three point set-up, I think they are mostly used in autocross.

On my car, this strap attaches to a bar attached to the seat mount that runs across underneath the seat bottom. I installed GT3 seats in my 951 so it was straight forward to purchase the bar from Brey-Krause. I believe they make bars for other brands of racing seats.

Some fasten this strap to an eye-bolt that is threaded through the floor of the car, but that's not safe. The forces in a collision can be high enough to tear a bolt right through the floor pan even if a large steel washer/plate is used to try and reinforce it.

Ok I know what you are talking about, but for daily driving I would hate to have to step around the strap or even strap the middle up everytime i get in.

I'm not sure harnesses are legal for street driving. Keep your three point set up for that. When I drive to/from the track, I just push the shoulder straps back through the headrest and leave the others unbuckled. I flip the side straps over the side of the seat and the sub strap lays flat towards the pedals.

Also, not to overly complicate things, shoulder harnesses generally should not be used with street seats, only track seats. Some street seats may cause the straps to come around the seat back rather than straight back over your shoulders. The geometry of how the shoulder straps pass over your shoulders and back to their mounting points is a very important safety factor. Never more than 5 degrees up or down straight back from your shoulders. More than a -5 degree drop off your shoulder could cause the straps to compress your spine in a collision, very bad. More than +5 degrees and the straps are less effective at holding you into the seat.

Get the seat recovered in hook and make your racing suit out of loop. Bingo, velco seat teather. Good luck getting out of it though.
