HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

944 fuel pump Pressure
What is the factory 944 Fuel pump Pressure suppose to be?
I have a 1/8-27 NPT port on the end of the fuel rail that is plugged and I want to install a Fuel Pressure gauge, Are they all universal or are there pressure ranges?
Also, where can I get replacement Fuel Injector to Fuel Rail seals at?

Re: 944 fuel pump Pressure
I think the Porsche system puts out like 70 psi, but GM specifies 58 psi for all operating conditions on the LS1 (thus the reason we use the Corvette fuel filter/regulator).
The o-rings are available through autozone. They should have a complete set behind the counter, otherwise they have some (butyl??) o-rings in the Help section.

Re: 944 fuel pump Pressure
N-buna is the standard that is resistant to many solvent's, IIRC EtOH as well up to a certain concentration, however I want to see if I can find the correct sizes (ID-OD) for these in VITON as I always run acetone in my gas.
Crap, looks like all the stuff at A-zone is 15psi....
are the liquid filled ones any better? ....if I can find one that can go to 60+ PSI

Re: 944 fuel pump Pressure
Both the turbo and NA cars ran 2.5 Bar stock, ~36.2psi. The turbo fuel pump can supply ~350hp to the original turbo engine.
Since the BSFC of a turbo enigne is around .6 and BSFC of an NA engine, like the LS motor, is around .5 that same pump should be good to ~ 420 NA HP.
I have seen turbo engines running with 4 Bar, 58psi, with the stock 944 turbo fuel pump.
FYI, Viton is not really any more resistant to acetone than Buna-N NBR......
Fuel injection pressure gauges are 0-100psi. I am using this FPG, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Re: 944 fuel pump Pressure
Thanks for that pressure tech info 948. I will see if someone local has a 100 PSI gauge.
As for Viton, the formulation "G" is what they are made from aftermarket wise and I have put the seals on a few bikes that I have run acetone in at 1:640 ratio to gas with no swelling or deterioration.
Also the 10% EtOH (officially) blends create organic acids that eat at N-Buna and Viton is the better candidate against the acids IMO.....Just wait till they start sticking in 15-20% blends.....

Re: 944 fuel pump Pressure
If you are going with the higher performace type Viton rings for fuel, stick with the GF and GFLT type, DON'T use the GLT type; they don't do well with automotive type fuels.
You could also use the "general use" Viton type F rings...

Re: 944 fuel pump Pressure
I went to the hydraulic shop and picked up 8ea of the Viton-G o-rings at lunch. The guy there confirms that he has never seen a better gasket material resistant to any fluid....
ID= 0.295"
OD= 0.585"
Thick= 0.150"
Thanks again for the reminder Dawgs, I will get one of those FP when mine craps out...

Which one of the six "G" types of Viton did the counter person give you?

Re: 944 fuel pump Pressure
GF-S is what he stocks in the loose bin he says...
Now I see you guys have found a way to bypass the Porsche Fuel pump. Has anyone found an alternative to the fuel filter?
I do have the C5 Filter/ Regulator, are you guys running both? seems to me that although the 2nd filter (C5) is great back-up, it is causing more wear and tear on the fuel pump. What are your thoughts?
Greg originally posted that the C5 filter INLET is the larger (3/8") fitting on the outer edge of the filter while the smaller OUTLET (5/16") was the one in the middle....and that's how I hooked it up....
I also wanted to confirm that the larger diameter hard line from the 944 wheel well was the feed/inlet and the smaller dia. tube the return?
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I think this guy has it backwards in the diagram? (4th pic from top)....

Re: 944 fuel pump Pressure
GF-S; the type "F" Viton. That will be great for oxygenated fuels and acids......
For the filter: I would use either the F60146 (Purolater) with .32" diameter nipples on each end or the F53191 with M14x1.5 female holes for use with banjo style ends (I prefer the banjo style). These are both large fuel injection filters, mainly found on VW's, Audi's and many other cars that used Bosch fuel injection systems. Can be had for a few bucks at your local parts store....
