HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

That's just beautiful Mike!
I just bought a set of RX7 calipers tonight.
Now I'm trying to locate the LS430 ones.
Rotors will be easy to obtain.

Calipers
Try Cardone Industries, Parts Authority.
P/No 192708 and 192709
I think these are LS430, if not they are RX7 (My Invoice does not say)

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
I know that number and they are cardone.
Is that what you have?
Are they ok? I wasn't sure because the ones I found
Had no reference to LS430 or Lexus .
If you're happy with them I'll order some.

All good, I ordered them yesterday.
Now, about rotors?
Plain, drilled, or drilled and slotted?. Anyone?
fliermike45, where did you get your fronts from?
Thanks,
Frank
P.S. anyone have the machining diagram for the LS 430 caliper to spindle adaptor?

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
just joined the forum, love what you guys do to the platform and to avoid paying the P tax. I'm interested in some information regarding the ls430 front brakes on an 86 951. I know the mounting ear differs by 18mm as compared to the other year cars. Can a simple redesign of the adapter allow the lexus calipers to bolt on, or are there other differences I am unaware of?
Edit: just found out I would have to machine my 86 hubs to fit the Boxster rotors. Since they weigh more than stock and are only 19mm larger, I would like to use my stock rotors and avoid having to do machine work. Is it then just a matter of getting the caliper adapters?
Thanks,
Doug

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
Get rid of the 86T hubs/spindles and get a set of 87-up NA hubs/spindles....THEY ARE THE STRONGER than all 951 hubs/spindles.
The 928 GTS rotors (322x32) have the 136mm setscrew PCD that matches the 944/951 hubs, therefore no centering ring is needed....

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
with the 87+ hubs and rotors, can one use the 304x32mm S4 rotor with the lexus calipers? They are much cheaper and easier to get than the GTS rotors, about the same cost as 86t or 87t rotors. They have the setscrews that match the 944 hub as well.

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
You would have to redesign the adapter to drop the caliper 9mm radially, not sure of the axial dimension change as I have never measured a 304mm rotor offset, as that defeats the purpose of bigger rotors.

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
I know the cayenne 330x32 rotors can be used as well, and they cost about the same as the boxster S rotors. Could either rotor be used without centering rings if they were drilled for the 136mm set screw spread? That would bring the cost of mounting a full setup to under 350 bucks, and would be a better option than the GTS/993tt rotors.

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
So will another run of adapters for late n/a suspension ever be made? Centering rings?
I don't have the means to make my own and I'm sick of slobbering over these pictures.
And forking over the cash to convert to turbo brakes just leaves a bad taste in my mouth when something like this is going around for just about the same price.

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
Does anybody have the dimensions for the Early hubs posted on post#1 by Rob? In willing to pay somone if they can send them to me. Tried contacting Rob about it but no luck.

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
So does anyone at least have the blueprints for late n/a adapters for the boxster S rotor? The guy I was talking to on here fell through, xschop must be busy because he never replied, and GTS rotors are overpriced.

In case anyone else might be looking and find this thread I found the blueprints for ls430 calipers+boxster rotors by creeping on xschop's photobucket

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
So I think I overlooked something when putting this Lexus brake swap together. The 87 spindles I sourced are turbo spindles. I'm having my machinist look at making the adaprters for this application, but I'm guessing the caliper mounting holes will be too close to the spindle mounting holes on the adapter?

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
Correct, using the 951 spindle/hub, the adapter will last about two stops as the axial and radial bolts will almost touch and no material will be between them. If you haven't seen my posts, get 87-up NA spindles. They are stronger anyways.

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
I was afraid of that. Thanks for the clarification. I obviously missed the "N/A" portion of that recommendation

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
Are the strut mount holes on the N/A spindle the same distance apart as on the turbo spindle? I switched to a 968 set up when I switched form the 85.5 spindles, and would like to still be able to use those.

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
87-up NA spindle strut mount holes are the same as 951/968 strut mount holes. If you want to keep an early offset, I machine billet hubs for all the early cars that allow the big brake kits/bigger rotors.

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
Anyone have a problem getting a solid pedal with these? Mine sinks down over an inch before it starts to bite.
Rear brakes lock up alright, have to adjust the bias way down and at that point I can just barely lock the fronts.
Starting to wonder if there is some issue with bubbles getting stuck on the outside since there is only a single bleeder inside. Juggled them around while bleeding all different methods and only saw a single tiny bubble and had no change.
