HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

I want to hear some reviews of people who are actually using them, though! Is anybody actively driving their car with these calipers?

Dawgz83948 is, but he hasn't come up with the ideal solution for how to replace the vacuum yet. He was using hydroboost, then he was working on a dual MC set up, I'm not sure what his status is right now.

Ah, i was kind of wondering how they do without boost. I was looking at it as an either/or situation, either the LS430 brakes or hydroboost. I'm leaning towards hydroboost for now, but the only thing holding me back is the fact that i probably need rotors either way...

I'm officially back to hydroboost. Not changing anymore, need to sell my setup. Someone PM'd me for pics, when I get back in town I'll send pics off. RX7 A-Arms work well though. Buy some 2psi residual pressure valves for the Lexus Calipers. They will give you a much less mushy pedal.

Dawgz83948,
What is making you switch back to hydroboost? Did the manual brake approach approach require too much pedal effort?

I can lock the Lexus brakes up with the Tilton Dual MC set-up. I will say that in the mornings now that it is cool I have to give the pedal a double-pump to firm the brakes up, then they work nice n strong so I can see what Dawg was talking about the 2 psi check valves preventing that. I also noticed working on some of your spindles that the caliper ears are off from the verticle plane some. This is due to uneven pad wear and one piston starts biting before the other. This can stress the spindle ears and cause binding. A floating rotor would fix these spindle/hubs

Edit: I disagree, the relocated C5 vacuum booster mod is up next....no messy hydraulic lines to contend with or add for that matter plus I can remove my driver's head and change the #5 & #7 sparks plugs without a lift LOL Cool

I disagree, I just like to disagree just to be diagreeable, do you agree? LOL. I like my Tilton Dual MC's, it's just that I'll like my relocated vacuum booster much better than a hydroboost set-up that will still be in the way. It literally took me half an hour to get #7 plug changed the other day.

As soon as it warms back up. Homie don't play with the cold. Razz
It will fit were the battery goes, the battery bottom area will need to be hammered down/cut out then fiberglassed. No biggie. I looked at the lines and all the factory lines can be tied into right at the firewall there since they are joined with compression fittings there. The first portion of the rear brake line will be used as the firewall MC to rear vacuum booster MC line even. I won't even have to bend hard lines. FNA

I saw an old Mercedes at a car show this weekend that had a factory mounted vacuum booster located behind the drivers side headlight with a long pushrod. It took me a minute to realize what it was.

There are either older BMW's and/or Merc's with a hydraulic actuated relocated VB behind the passenger headlight. I thought I was going to put the 944 vacuum booster forward and down, but my Silverado Truck alternator had to go there to make room for the 944 PS pump swap. Talk about robbing Peter to pay Paul on this swap. I can't leave well enough alone, OCD or ADHD, or just plain stubborn LOL.

Remote Servo

Post  fliermike45 on Mon Nov 08, 2010 10:29 pm

In the UK during the 60's various kits were available to convert manual brakes to servo assist.
They used the same method xschop is planning. Quite common to see a MGB with its servo on the opposite side of the car from the pedal box.

Put me on your list xschop for a system when they are ready.

Yeah, I do believe that the 87-88 S front calipers are the same as the 8V cars...

I've always said the 87-up NA spindles with 76mm ears are THE spindles to have. I'm testing another big brake kit at the moment using Wilwood Superlites and Cayenne rotors on my NA spindles....friggin monsters Twisted Evil

Mike, you need to swap the calipers to opposite sides. The Bleeder valves need to be on top pointing towrds engine bay. What Caliper paint did you use? Looks great.

Paint

Post  fliermike45 on Thu May 05, 2011 11:03 am

Rob, Thanks for the bleeder tip.
Note I used Speed Bleeders, used them on my MG also, makes one man brake bleeding easy.

I used Cupli-Color caliper paint, wait and see if it holds up.
