HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
Yeah, did the LS430 Calipers fit up under the 16" Fuchs?
Hmmm...... $72 Lexus monoblock Caliper
$3-400 crossover-tube Brembo

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
the only issue with fitting a 16" wheel over them on an early car such as the fuch is you need a spacer due to the taper inside from the face of the wheel other wise its minimal clearance, but it works

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
xschop- do you sell (or would you) the adapter rings for the boxS rotors for late cars? I could handle the caliper mounts, but I'd prefer some level of precision for the rings.
Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
To be perfectly honest even the early cars could use those rings. Mine has a slight bit of vibration to it @100+ and I think it's because the rotors are not dead centered.

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
No, I will not do a set-up just for rings. I'm working on some bike stuff on my lathe ATM, sorry
If you want a complete set of the late adapters and rings just PM me

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
Why don't the lugs hold the rotors centered, like they do on every other car?

Most cars have the rotors centered on the hub...?

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
if you got a ford or checy, next time you take the brake pads off look at the rotor, all it takes is a nice hammer all the way around to move it up then it off for servicing.

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
The Early 944 Hubs are a tad wide at the rim for the Boxster S rotor and need to be trimmed.
The Late 944 Hubs hold the 282mm NA and 299mm Dia. Turbo rotors centered at the rim in 5 points, the Boxster S rotor hat is too large to fit snug on the LATE hub, reason for the centering rings. I am rethinking the EARLY Boxster S swap at the moment. I would like to find a rotor that slips right over the hub with no machining, but it's like pulling teeth over at the $hitlist....
4" Dia. Billet Rod is not cheap and wastes alot of chips to get the rings machined....

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
Even an early after machining the hub needs those rings. I'm getting a couple machined right now (since my car is at my mechanics sorting the brakes) to install on my car. The issue is there is still a bit of play even after machining the hubs and I'm getting some vibration at higher speeds.

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
Your Machinist should be slip-fit testing your Early hubs to your inner rotor circumference. The drawing I posted for the Early hub machining is dead-on for R1 Concepts Brand Boxster S rotors. For the Early 944 HUB and Lexus Calipers I am thinking about building bolt-on hats that bolt to Wilwood Light-weight rotors. There will be no machining of the Early hub needed.....

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
I'm sorry, I can't remember the name of the company, but one of the rennlist brake vendors makes hats for early offset cars.
They allow people with early offset cars to use big black brakes (which use the same boxster S/996 rotors that we are using)
$$$$$$ though! (something like $400 for the hats, and another $200 per rotor)

R1 Concepts Brand Boxster S rotors
I am seeing those at about $65 apiece (and only $118 for the turbo rear pair), anybody have a line on the ls430 calipers for less than $180 w/ core?

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
well, I just went ahead and ordered them from rock auto. I wasn't going to save that much off of 180 anyway.
Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
Sorry about the delay, I asked a friend from ToyotaNation to check into it, he can't beat that price at this point. He happened to stumble upon some 4-pot twin turbo supra calipers, but could only get one side at the ridiculous price. Grabbed em' anyway and now looking for the other side to have a few pairs on the cheap. I'll have to check into whether or not they can be used. I think he has some lying around from the LS400 but that probably won't work either.

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
The LS400 and Supra calipers are AXIAL mounted and won't work with the adapter diagram I posted and that is in greg's manual....LS430 Monoblocks are RADIAL mounted at 130mm bolt centers.

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
Off to the supra/toyota forums they go for sale then. The twin turbo brakes are popular for the toyota guys to swap to if they can find em, so I'm sure these won't last too long. Looks like I'm back on the prowl for cheap or free ls430 calipers

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
You should go to: http://www.craiglook.com
Search "LS430 Parts"
I came up with three totalled cars. I'm sure you can get a nice used set for $100 or so.
Edit, here:
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/pts/1719099159.html
http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/pts/1685779290.html
Both clearly have the calipers still on there!

Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
Got my R1 slotted/drilled rotors, they look great. My rock auto calipers (I went with the set of 2 front, loaded) should be here soon. Looking forward to get this all put in, but my back is not cooperating. I still owe some manual steering tie rod ends to Admin so he can create the bump steer kit, but there has been no way I could physically make that happen short of taking them off in place, which I may do. Also looking forward to these adapters.
Re: LS430 Big Brake Swap
Wow, the LS430 calipers are really impressive! Coupled with the Boxster S rotors, it looks to be quite a jump in size.
