HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Caprice LT1 info for swap
Found a 95 Caprice earlier with a mostly complete LT1 (missing the alternator and the throttle body) and IIRC still had harness and computer.
Will the B-body headers work with the 944 NA body/steering? Or will I need the Sanderson headers should I buy the motor for a swap?
Howabout the accessories? I don't have PS anymore so it'd be AC and alternator plus whatever emissions stuff there is, read something about a smog pump somewhere. Would I need the F-body bracket + Buick V6 alternator?

Re: Caprice LT1 info for swap
The caprice engines have iron heads (unless someone swapped them) and a funky waterpump. Neither a real deal breaker other than additional weight and you will need to swap the pump for a fbody or corvette pump. The exhaust manifolds will not clear the steering unless swapped side for side then you got some pretty crazy exhaust fab work to do, but does work if you must pass emmissions. Suggestion is always the headers Sandersen or otherwise. The PCM and wiring will work.

Re: Caprice LT1 info for swap
I THINK the accessory bracket is the same as the f-body, if that is the case you will need to mod it for the smaller alt, just like the f-body.

I had a caprice 4.3L V8 (baby LT1) that was built by my engine builder and put in a Z28 after it's engine blew up...That engine would rev higher than Obama's tax plan...

Re: Caprice LT1 info for swap
Spencer, you need to get CARB approved headers for this car if you are planning on using it here in CA. I went with the Pacesetter shorties that are CARB approved, also, you have to transfer the entire emissions set up for whatever car you are using the engine from- the easiest way to get through all the hassle is with a 94-95 LT1, I am using a 94 Corvette LT1.
Re: Caprice LT1 info for swap
how much out of round do you think the bores would be at, say 150k miles? think a .030 overbore would suffice

RUN FOREST RUN
150k on a not complete iron head LT1 not worth much, very easy to tie up hundreds in machine work quickly.
I would buy the harness and pcm for about $100 Leave the rest. What you will spend on machine work and finding missing parts you can buy a complete F body LT1. Then there is the whole iron head deal!
