The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

automatic to manual

Post  bp944 on Sat Jun 19, 2010 4:17 pm

How hard is it to convert a automatic car to manual. I'm already planning on changing the transmission and all, so what are the draw backs?

No draw backs, you will just need the pedal assembly from a Manual 944. You would be switching to the after market Clutch Master anyway to work with the GM slave. Besides that, youll need a shifter assembly, shift rod, cant remember if the axles were the same or not, i dont believe they were, if It was me, I would get a set of Auto zone reman axles, that way when you Pop them you have a lifetime warranty.

I swapped an auto for a manual before....I would only bother with it again if I were swapping in a V8 Very Happy
It is perfect timing since you have to remove all the auto flywheel/rubber flex plate anyway.

i have auto equiped 944 converted to a v8 and it works very good.and it launches really hard but it doesnt have the top end mph as an overdriven manual should be able to use a donor 944 transaxle and tourqe tube and bolt it up to yours.the auto trans tourqe tube basicicly the same without the shifter provisions and also the halfshaft axles are different on the auto trans vs manual trans you will need to swap them also

Stuart. I am very interested in building a 968 automatic LS1 or LT1 powered car. Do you have the details of your conversion anywhere?
