HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Stock LSD, anyone running it? Empty Stock LSD, anyone running it?

Hello,

I had budgeted for a Quaife unit at around $1800, but It would be nice to save a grand and just go with a stock LSD that came with the 944. Problem is, it looks like a really flaky clutch type. Does anyone use it? Can it handle the power? Does it last? I'm hoping to run 295's out back. If anyone has had one installed please let me know, I'd love to have some advice on this. Like we've talked about before some people have managed to manipulate another Audi LSD in place that is a good unit. Which car specifically were those from? I don't know much about Audi and there was never any specific car named in the threads I've read, everyone just seemed to know it without mention. I'm a little nervous about the fabrication that would be involved as well.

THANKS!
Luke

I have it; it was an installed option on my car. The unit is a ZF made item with 40% lock.
It has over 110K miles on it and it still functions very well.
IIRC TonyG had one in his track car for quite sometime before he sheared the weld that holds the 2 carrier pieces together.

If you are staying on the street the stock unit is fine as is an ATB.....if you are going racing then an upgraded clutch-pack unit, like a Guard one, would be a better solution.

Stock LSD, anyone running it? Empty stuff

tonyG on rennlist has TONS of stuff on this. Look up guard by author tonyG, and you will be smarter than most. There was even a pissing contest b/n guard and a quaiffe (?) seller or someone like that. Or maybe OBX. Anyway, it was so amusing the back and forth, I think it should be framed. It is a good read, and highlights the +/- of most.
