For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

New car for me! Empty New car for me!

Post  Porch Sat May 01, 2010 9:59 pm

Woohoo! Just sealed the deal on a new car for me:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

And YEP...it's pretty ricey! (You should see the interior!)
Picking it up for $4k. Motor is blown, but the car has a fairly fresh $3500 paint job on it.

Plans:
-Swap my motor into it
-Sell red Momo seats and replace with Corbeau A4's in BLACK
-Return interior to all BLACK (P.O. painted door handles, speaker grilles, and various other bits red)
-Put my wheels on it (TT II's)
-Car has a 1-piece AIR front-end on it. Will be getting my stock parts painted to match and replace, and i'll probably pick up a lip from "Admin" here for it Smile
-Drive it.

Has lots of nice/new parts on it. The car is just outside of Boston right now...had a rennlister go look at it and he gave it a big thumbs up. Mileage is a little higher (actual: unknown), but he said the chassis is very clean, which is exactly what i wanted!

I'll swap you a splitter for the front end piece. I can convert that to make many NA parts...... Twisted Evil

Nice buy! The AIR piece is lookin' a little wavy-gravy in the lower inlet. Must be an optical illusion? I feel like I saw that car on craigslist! Were you able to nudge them down from the advertised $4k? Heck of a deal even at that, grats again!

Eric, are you planning to produce more body pieces? If so, I'm really interested in a turbo-look NA front bumper. Lowest I've found is $400 for em. If you can make one with the integrated lower lip (perhaps using this piece as a start-point) that fits NA cars, I doubt I'd be the only one wanting to buy one. I'd rather give my money to you, than some random aero co. that wants $400 for a slightly re-contoured factory knock off.

Not tooo keen on the integrated head panel on this one, because it looks like it might have some fitment issues with the headlights.. a bit sunken don't you think?

Headlight panels look sunken at the fender edges too though, not just the nose....just out of adjustment maybe?

Ditto to what adam7e said about the turbo-look NA nose. I would possibly get in line for one.

And yeah, looks like you got a sweet deal!

Those Momo's OK besides the color? Let's see the ricey interior! Very Happy
(Wonder what it would take to recover them in black...?)

Thanks guys! I'm stoked!

From what i hear the AIR front pieces just take a lot of work to make "perfect". The guy who went to look at it actually said it looks better in person than in the pictures.

I noticed the headlights in the pictures. I think normally the headlights rest on some rubber pieces at the front of the headlight area. I'm sure there's no way to use those with this header panel. It would be pretty easy to make a provision for just a bump stop, i think?

Here's a pic of the interior, expensive Momo steering wheel too (i'll probably keep that, but i wish it was black...anyone want to trade?):

He's including all the stock dash trim with it, plus some good condition stock black seats. The car has an Autopower roll bar too.

I probably could have talked him down from $4k a little, but he jumped through a ton of hoops for me and i felt like it was a reasonable price, so i just paid it.

I paid $4k + $850/ship and i got $1800 from insurance + an entire Turbo car to part out, so i'm thinking i'll probably come out a little ahead by doing it this way.

Hmmm.... got an OEM 4-spoke, good shape, an Isotta Nivola R/T (pictured f/s elsewhere) and a near new Momo Champion. Which one you want? Laughing
I'm thinking leather dye on the red.

I think i'm going to wait and see how i like the wheel. It sure is a nice looking piece!

I haven't even gotten shipping arranged yet, so you vultures better back off Smile

You can send the wheel off to have it recovered in Alcantara!

Great looking car though!

Ugh, bad timing, but...i backed out on the deal. Got some more pictures of the car from a guy who went to look at it. The paint job has a lot of overspray, and just really doesn't have the glossy finish that i would expect from a $3500 paint job. The front bumper is currently pretty smashed up. Lots of little things...
Just not the car i want to "start over" with. Neutral

I ended up not buying that car, so no Turbo front-end for you guys (sorry!).

On the other hand, i have a complete Turbo front end that i'll sell you. Will, of course, need paint to match your car. Make me an offer!

is it an AIR piece (na bolt on) or a real turbo front end that needs headlights, nose panel and fender mods? If so, I have one of those as well, I don't want to cut my fenders with a dremel....too chicken.

If its the air (bolt on), I will buy it for sure. PM me details.

It's the real deal, the front end off my '87 951. It sounds like you don't need it, but I would include fenders if need be.

Everything i've seen, heard, and read about the AIR stuff is that they're crap. They fit like crap, they break, etc. etc. Seems like Admin has the necessary skill to get a good one going, though!
