The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

You don't need a LT1, Any old 350 will do. Factory roller cam is always nice though. What else do you need? Time, skills and a little money! Quicktime bellhousing is a nice way to go. Nice little project though!

LT1s are dirt cheap.
$500 locally, including harness and computer.

Re: Hi i am new here
well right now i got a stripped interior 944 with a 2.5l na motor
i plan to do a old 350ci motor from a chevy
i was hopping i could just go to a junkyard and get most of the parts i.e. the whole talk with a c5 bellhousing
i just dont know what else like brakes and setup i would need to get everything else my budget would be 100 bucks for the block and rebuild it bottem up about 500-1000 for the rebuild
and the other parts like brakes and transmission hook ups 2000
i was going to try and fab most of it as much as possible because i work at a shop and they said i can do what ever i want there for free
i want it carb mostly because my boss might let me have his old dual carb setup with 2x 750cfm demon carbs but i might just buy my own setup
also ill like to keep it simple because i know old chevy carbs and know how to tune them
the big part is i live in california and well smog ya all is said there
i know a shop that will smog it for me just by emission test as long as it passes but cops wont care i guess ill find out when its done lol
i plan to have 300- low 400 hp with good amount of torq
but mostly i want to try and get this all done with under 3,500 into just getting it in and working
then ill drop around 1500 on susp and 500 to 1000 on brake setup
also since i do well im going to put in a roll cage pipes will cost me about 85-125 dollars depends on if i want full rollcage or not
but now i just need like what parts from what cars i should look for at a junk yard
e/ also i just want to make this a daily driver car right now i been driving my gsxr 750 around and well i dont really like bikes for daily drivers but i do love the speed lol
i still want it fast and fun to drive so pretty much what i am saying is
i have the money but dont want to spend alot

Re: Hi i am new here
If I could get LT1's for $500 that would be the route to go for sure! Looking a couple grand up here, asking anyways. I would think it would be more possible to get it on the road emissions wise going that route also!

Re: Hi i am new here
can it be road emissions legal with carb set up ?
i found a guy with a lt1 that needs rebuild for 150
also a running 350 that still might need rebuild for 200 sbc ( not lt1 )
i kinda want to lean at carb because its easy to work on but if the LT1 dosnt need that much work and i could get the computer and wire harness for it i would do that or buy a MSD stand alone system and pay someone to hook it up
i pretty much wanted 100-500 for the block and 500-1000 for the rebuild to it

Re: Hi i am new here
I guess the reason to install the LT1 would be to get away from the carb. A little learning and once you have it installed I think you will find you won't have to work on it compared to a carbed vehicle. I have been pulling wrenches for 31 years and I would estimate the workload on carbed stuff is about 500% higher (you might have to spend more time driving your car than fiddling). I can't imagine the point of a dual quad tunnel ram on a 944 other than radical looks anyways! I spent $130 for a LT1 intake to convert to a SBC and still have to put together a Megasquirt for it. I think the only downside of the LT1 might be the ignition system however it's not that bad and there are ways to improve that as well. I could probably make money even after shipping on $500 LT1's and LS's up here!
