HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

modified steering shaft
Does anyone here have pics of the RH steering adapter they sell got the California conversions?
Re: modified steering shaft
Here is an image from Craig Hardy at Hybrid9s.com.
I will need this too for my california conversion using stock exhaust... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: modified steering shaft
Is there more information on this floating around with detailed pictures?
It looks to me like it uses a third joint, doesn't that screw up the steering rotation feel?
I recently started a non GM conversion and this would cure/ save considerable exhaust work if it actually works invisibly.
Anybody here use this setup or at least driven a car with this setup?

I looked at the pictures, it's nothing special. Just your standard hot rod steering linkage. Use a couple of anchored heim joints to hold the linkage in place, get some universal steering joints (they sell them at all the good speed shops), weld some tube in between and keep it as straight as possible. In all honesty it would probably be a lot less complicated (with the right exhaust manifold) than making a custom header fit.
I wish i had some pictures of some of the setups i've done... Apparently not, though Here's a link so you can see what the universals look like:

You can clamp 'em, too. I prefer to weld for obvious reasons. If you weld, be careful not to get it too hot and melt the grease seals on the universals.

Agreed, nothing special, my point of interest is in rotational feel. With only that one picture, I'm not able to clearly make out the angles.

Re: modified steering shaft
Craig Hardy is the Admin over at hybrid9s.com and I am sure he will be happy to answer any questions about the feel of the steering mod. He has sold his 944 conversion and is on to other things now but his site is still up.
Unfortunitly, he is the only one I know for sure that ran this.

Re: modified steering shaft
The angle looks a little steep on the one picture. Too tight of a turn and you end up with a ratcheting feel, just like a driveshaft u-joint. Could probably be done better by someone other than RH...

Re: modified steering shaft
would such a modification allow the use of common long tube headers?
