HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Wiring questions

Post  Arthropraxis on Sun Dec 27, 2009 7:18 pm

I have removed everything off of the Porsche harness. Now I have these pigtails like the one for the brake fluid level, water pump for the turbo and the connector to the ignition coil. What do i do with the pigtails? Can I just leave them or cut them off?

These pigtails are on the firewall connector? If so, you can take the connector apart and pull the pins and wires out of the connector and store them. The connector comes apart with a flat head screw driver and the pins just lift out.

I have a thought or 2...

These (Turbo pump / ignition coil) are located at several different places in the 944 harness, MK. As far as what to do with them, consider this...Will you ever install a Porsche engine in that bay again?

Ummm, didn't think so.
Especially once you drive it.

Say Bye-Bye to the above mentioned connections, except for the harness section coming from the 14-pin connector. Save that for splicing in gauges, tach, etc.
(The GM harness features wiring connections for the tach, coil, A/C compressor...and the brake fluid level connection is only feasible if retaining the 944 master cylinder.)

They be...

"Gone like a freight-train
Gone like yesterday
Gone like a soldier
In the Civil War
BANG! BANG!

Gone like a '59 Cadillac,
Like all the good thangs
That ain't never comin' back..."

No I know, pretty much everything is removed but you should keep pigtails. Why? .... if someone here needs one because they lost theirs or broke one etc. If im thinking what hes talking about, instead of just cutting them short/taping them up, just take them out of the connector and save them in case. These kind of pins are used throughout the car and either he or, if hes so inclined, someone else may be able to use them.

If these wires are somewhere else and are just wires....whatever to them. But 944 replacement pins/connectors are a PITA to find seperate in lieu of buying an entire harness just to get them.

Cutting wires is lazy anyway. Do it professional like and remove them. Very Happy

I removed the motor harness connecting to the 14 pin connector at the drivers side firewall and modified it per the manual. The pigtails I am referring to come off of the power wire harness coming out of the battery box. That harness circles around to the left toward the drivers side where there is one for the brake fluid level, turbo water pump, then down to the lights over to the right light and to the ignition coil. The ignition coil had another connector. I would think these are power wires once the battery is hooked back up. I guess I could split the casing and pull the wires out complete. What is a good product to re-wrap the harness? Thanks, for your help. I see a lot of questions in my future as I attempt the harness on the donor motor.

I didn't say "hack-it"... Rolling Eyes

If you do remove the wires completely, terminate them with a butt-connector to eliminate the chance of a short. Fire away with questions, answers are free.

This is what I used on my LT1 harness...
Cheap, fairly thick, and looks factory.

Laughing Its not what you said...its the way you said it. (what my woman says allllll the time.)

I like the wrapping from summit thats a nylon like weave. Looks like factory type stuff. I think painless sells it by the foot too.

Only if the connection is (accidentally or intentionally) grounded.
