HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Has anybody considered the Active Fuel Management (AFM) formerly Displacement on Demand (DoD) engine that chevy put in the Trailblazers and Envoy's in 2005? From my understanding it's the same as the 5.3L truck motor but is capable of shutting off four cylinders in light load conditions. I am wanting to build my Porsche as a daily driver and the 5-7% MPG increase would be welcome.

The motors on car-parts.com are similarly priced to the 5.3L truck motors (L33) although there are fewer of them. I also browsed several trailblazer forums and heard they have similar reliability.

Any thoughts?

That would be pretty awesome but how is AFM controlled in those vehicles? If its all in the engine computer ECM, then it should be easily doable. But if it requires parameters from PCM/BCM, youre in for a long ride (no pun intended). Laughing

I know of no one who currently runs DOD or AFM in their conversions as of yet.

5.3L DoD or AFM Empty I looked at that as an option, briefly

They are all DBW and I just don't want to deal with anymore than I have to. If you want to cam it that will be a problem. I have seen on the truck forums where people have programmed it out and swapped parts to make them normal motors. So, if it is not what you thought you can make it non DOD.

I don't know anything about the DOD, but you might also look into Lean Cruise--available on the Holden computers, and also something that can be added to the GM computers (search around on the EFI Live forums).

I was worried about the same thing. I'll get onto a trailblazer/envoy forum and try to find out how that is controlled. I also wondered if i could simply over-ride everything and simply control how many cylinders are running with a switch on my dashboard, it would be inconvenient but worth it.

thanks

I will look into that. Thanks
