HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Twin turbo with log manifolds Empty Twin turbo with log manifolds

So I saw the thread regarding a early 944 with the Callaway turbo conversion and was intrigued by how compact the turbo setup was on the car. They utilized a log manifold directed towards the back of the engine and mounted the turbo and wastegate near the rear of the motor. This got me to thinking...

What if I create a log manifold which hugs the head and travels to the front of the engine where it would terminate into the turbo and wastegate. There would be logs and turbos on each bank of cylinders. These would feed into a front mounted intercooler and then into the intake. Looking at my naked engine bay it appears there may be room if the coolant overflow tank and windshield washer tank is relocated. Additional room could be had by going with fixed headlight buckets.

I could probably utilize stock 944 turbos and wastegates which I can get used, but in good shape, for cheap. This would all go on the '93 Vette LT1 engine. I would reduce compression ratio to around 8:1.

Thoughts?

Speedy:)

Well, with enough elbow grease, I guess anything can be done. Seems like those areas can be cleared out but you'd be running a lot of heat up front and what about your poor transaxle?

(you'd need some sort of crazy clutch setup)

You'd probably have to not run power steering, relocate the alternator somewhere low, have hood vents to let heat out (raised center).

... I think it would be really crazy powerful (and hot) but it would probably be best to put in a newer LS3 engine to have smooth power and torque. I have a regular 1994 Trans Am LT1 (reprogrammed) with RH shorty headers to 3" pipe out the back (synth. oil with cooler, and a Delteq ignition) and the car flies. I have a hard enough time trying not to drive like an idiot on an incline when a red-light turns green. I can't imagine a twin turbo in this thing. Shocked

You want to track/drag it or something?

On seconds thought:

If you can imagine it, you can do it... that's what we're all about. It would be an adrenaline rush every time you get in, turn the key, and it fires! If you can get the turbos cheap and have access to a cutter/welder and want to build a more insane machine... then go for it!!! Cool

I have considered this in the past, and if I ever get the time or money I will try. I would suggest the rear mounted setup like STS sells. I would not buy from the , but just make a similar set up out of used parts. The guy that does my machine work builds a lot of the stroke 302 fords, they put a lot of junk yard turbos on these cars and boost the hell out of the with very little problems and they are very fast.
