HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Alternator Conversion Empty Alternator Conversion

Hope this is some help for those wishing to convert a ECU controlled alternator to stand alone. I note a few have just used the start wire or a PWM to adjust the output.

I found this while trawling the net:https://www.st.com/en/automotive-analog-and-power/l9916.html

Cost me US$10 plus shipping from the US supplier in Texas.

The project is a the V6 swap into a very early 944. The swap has a aftermarket ECU which does not have all the facilities to fully operate these alternators.

The alternators on these engines also have an unusual mounting and I did not want to create a big lump of ally on the front and side of the motor to carry a self regulating model. I also wanted to upgrade to a 140 amp alternator to power the electric/hydraulic power steering and electric a/c.

I opened up the old 100 amp alternator to see what was involved in pulling it appart, re-assembling and  doing the wiring and it was not a big deal, 2 screw in connections, one connection to the case and one soldered connection to the second brush.

The original 2 wires are discarded.

I now have a regulated alternator using the original mountings which monitors battery state and have retained the ignition light.

Here are a couple of photos of the internals and how the wiring exits the case to the regulator. Re assembling is a problem until I read that you put a pin into the back of the unit to hold in the brushs. I am not sure the images will appear.

Jaffar,

Not something I need on my project but certainly an interesting topic!   Two pics posted just fine.

BTW...there is a "link" icon in the menu bar so you can post live links.
