HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

3800 Swap for a race car
Hi, I have been looking around for some info on putting a Buick 3800 motor into our 1988 944 race car. I am tired of buying Porsche motors and parts and would like to get something that is more supported locally. Man times we race we don't have every spare part, so I was looking for an engine that I can find parts for at Advance or Autozone.
We don't want to put in a V8, we are racing Chumpcar and putting in the 3800 motor would keep us in the same class without having to take on too many points. If anyone had done this before and is willing to answer a few questions please send me PM.
Right now I need to know what bellhousing and clutch flywheel pressure plate setup would work.
Thanks!
-Steve

Re: 3800 Swap for a race car
there is one other member doing a 3800 swap, but his swap is a full cali emissions legal swap and eliminating the torque tube/transaxle and using a trans on the back of the engine.
if you want to use the transaxle and torque tube you have a couple options. you can get a bellhousing from a 3.8l camaro and adapt it to the torque tube, another option would be getting a bellhousing adapter that allows you to bolt a small block chevy bellhousing to the small gm metric pattern and use a corvette bellhousing and the existing torque tube adapter. clutch and flywheel will need to be a mix of a 3.8l camaro and finding the right diameter 23 spline disc.

This thread may have some of the answers for you. It kind of dies out after awhile but I think I recall reading about some of the clutch/spline/BH issues that sharkey mentions.
