HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

4.8 Ls beast!
Hey guys,
I know when you are reading other forums most will say why waist your time on a 4.8 LS so I am here to show others that they shouldn't feel left out if you have a 4.8 for your swap. I love this little engine so far. I still have a few things to do to improve on my car. This past few times out have been a blast. I started out building this car and my goal was for this car to compete with a $70000-120000 car for a fraction of the price. I currently sit at about 5.9 lbs per HP which is in the territory I was shooting for. Thanks to many of you guys and this forum for all the help and info!

What parts are you wondering about?
Unhook everything to the 944 engine, brake booster should go, drop out the suspension cross member as everything should drop out the bottom and the new engine gets lifted from underneath.

Re: 4.8 Ls beast!
That's a nice looking ride. I'm going flat black for mine as well. I went with the 5.3 but not too dissimilar from your 4.8. I wanted an LS1 block but didn't want to spend the $1500 and the 5.3 complete was only $400.
I pulled my 2.5L N/A from the top, it was super easy and only had to remove a few items. I also installed my LS from the top as well but did drop the cross member at the same time to give more room to maneuver onto the driveshaft. But yeah, pretty much everything goes inside. Good luck and refer to the forum for solutions to any problems that may arise. There is a treasure trove of invaluable knowledge in here!!

Re: 4.8 Ls beast!
I ended up using a Bosche 044 fuel pump with an external filter inline. I never had power steering so I kept the manual rack.

Re: 4.8 Ls beast!
I actually bought everything off of a guy that gave up on his project. It was all Texas performance stuff that I bought at a discounted price.

It is an Intercooler up front. I have been running my car all summer and enjoying it. Also racing some road course and auto X at a local track. This winter I hope to rebuild the trans and also strengthen the engine lower so I can push the car from 400whp to 500 whp.

Re: 4.8 Ls beast!
Wow, 5.9#/hp is a very respectable number! I built a MGB V8 14yrs ago and it was a rocket but only 8#/hp.
Is it NA? You mention having an intercooler, but not details on your build. Hook us up!
Have you dyno'd the car yet? What does the torque curve look like?

Re: 4.8 Ls beast!
It is currently turbocharged running 8-10lbs. It made right at 400whp on 8lbs and torque was real close to 400 wheel. The turbo is a precision 6266.
This winter I am building the engine internals to be stronger and going to push the boost to around 15# I hope to be around 525 whp. I am also fitting in a c5 corvette torque tube, t56 transaxle and suspension in the rear.
The car will be a whole new monster this summer! At 4.5 to 5 lbs per hp

That C5 setup in the tail is a big undertaking. Good luck!

Re: 4.8 Ls beast!
I was able to successfully get the entire driveline mounted in the car and working properly. I also just got done at the dyno and the new bigger turbo and exhaust it made 633whp and 627wtq. The car now has a new splitter and fender flares. the car has changed so much since these pictures. I am having a hard time loading pics.

Loving it Yamamtx!
Any pictures of the actual fabrication work? I think most of us are curious what it looked like... getting to see the guts and different ways everyone is tackling this same conversion.
