HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

5R vs AOR help me decide!?
Guys I am wondering if I would regret buying the 5R vs the AOR? The cost difference is a lot on the two I'm looking at. My car is a 944 with a LS 4.8 that has a single turbo running 10lbs. I hope it will be around 450 whp. Going to go get the car tuned and dyno within the next month. Thanks

Re: 5R vs AOR help me decide!?
the only differences between the aor and 5r is the aor has shot blasted 1st and 2nd gear for added strength and the limited slip is a bit better. 1st and 2nd gear really arent a high failure point, and the lsd can be upgraded to aor specs for around $500 (when yours wears out you can do it then).
either trans you will want to swap 5th gear for the n/a .72 ratio.

Sharkey what do you feel the 5r hp and torque rating would be?
I made it to the tuner and on a mustang dyno on 7 lbs it made right at 400whp and 375wtq
Is there anything I can do to make this thing so I don't have to worry about it? I'm a little freaked out about blowing it up after reading everything online. Thanks

Re: 5R vs AOR help me decide!?
its hard to put a power rating on what will take what, too many variables. if you ran 195 wide all season tires with 500hp it could hold up fine, where 300hp and 315 wide r comps could kill it if the boost ramps in too hard.
i dont think you will have any issues if you treat it right. like i said above, your limited slip is a little weaker and the gears that dont seem to break in any of them are harder in the aor. the strength issue in these transmissions is the ring and pinion, its just not big enough to take piles of abuse. you already have the strongest ring and pinion (3.38 has the largest pinion). the other failure point is the case, and the ways to help that is with the reinforcement plate, and to ensure that pinion bearing preload is set correctly (often it gets loose and the pinion actually has play in it, the hammering is what breaks the case).

Re: 5R vs AOR help me decide!?
I understand all the conditions play a factor in how much it can handle. I wish there was a reasonably priced option out there that was bulletproof! Thank you for the additional info. I have no intentions on drag racing, doing burn outs or clutch dropping this car but I don't want to worry about it every time I stand on it in 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear. When you did your AOR rebuild where did you source all the parts from? Also the info for the specs on the trans to make sure things like the preload is set correctly? Thanks

Re: 5R vs AOR help me decide!?
at that power level there is no need for concern on the street. there are people road racing them with 450hp that dont generally have issues.
the few parts i needed for my transmission came from pelican parts. i also got a used 5th gear set (my aor already had the .72 5th gear swap and i wanted the .82) from flying horse motorsports. i had found a service manual for the transmission just searching google, cant seem to find the bookmark for it though. it didnt take me much to find it.
its unfortunate there isnt an easy or affordable swap. the corvette t56 is really the only viable thing and thats a lot of mods to the car to do it.
