HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Curious what you guys are doing with your vacuum lines. Right now I have the two on the back of the intake by the MAP capped. The drivers side front go to the steam line at the bottom and the one above it capped. I don't know what to do with the passenger side. Also my drivers side valve cover is blank. No ports at all. I think 2 goes to 3. 4 and 5 are capped. What do I do with 1? I want this to vent properly. I think 5 may be cut off in the pic. It's under the throttle body.

1 and 2 can be tee'd together and go to 3. 4 usually goes to the valley cover. If yours doesn't have a nipple on the valley cover, then leave 4 capped. 5 is the water lines for the throttle body to heat up faster in cold weather. 5 can be capped or left open, doesn't matter.

Here's the stock LS1 routing for the crankcase ventilation system.

The port at the back of the intake is for the vacuum system. This would go to your brake booster, HVAC system, etc.

The port at the driver side front of the intake is for the EGR system. If you deleted this system, you can just cap it.

Hope that helps,
Rich

Thanks guys. Since I don't have a PCV would I be better running 1 to 4? Is that a check valve in line?

If you want it to "vent properly", get a PCV. The LS1 way is to t together the two valve covers, through a PCV to the intake (your #4). The LS6 way is a port off the valley cover, as Hotrodz said, some have a PCV built-in.

You can hack it together however you want. It'll run, maybe even seem to run fine. But the oil ingestion will eventually gum-up the works.

So I either need a new valve cover for the drivers side or an LS6 valley cover. I may just do the valley cover. I think I'm going to pull the intake off anyway. I'm fighting a high idle situation now. 1500 rpm. Changed the idle control and its the same. Now looking for vacuum leaks.

Here's my post from '13 when I did the swap to the LS6 valley cover.

Rich

Yup.

Anyone find an actual solution to the oil ingestion?

They look good. How often do you empty them? How much oil do you get out of them?

The "clean side" from the front of the passenger head has never caught much. I drain it a couple times a year but it's got almost nothing in it.

For the "dirty side", I initially ran the "config LS1 early" routing from the back of the two heads. This spat out a bunch of oil, collecting about a half pint over a 30 minute run session on track. I was draining it 2 or 3 times a day.

Then I installed the LS6 valley cover and setup the "config LS3" routing. This has greatly reduced the amount of oil to about a half pint for a full day of lapping. I can drain it once after a whole weekend.

YMMV...
