HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

T56 behind an LS Motor with different axle?

Post  kizzlecake on Wed May 03, 2017 6:25 pm

Has anyone put a T56 behind an LS(anything) and ran a straight axle or IRS center section out of something else? With the concerns for big power driving the 951 transmissions this seems like the most bulletproof option for a stick shift car. Makes me wonder how far back the shifter would sit.

it can be done, but you need to cut the floor out and build your own transmission tunnel. you could use a ford 8.8 irs rear end with some custom axles and keep the independent rear suspension. if your trying to build a drag car with a solid rear axle you may as well just back half the car with a 4 link and a 9" and be done with it. running the c5+ corvette transaxle and torque tube has been done, it takes a lot of work to the floor around the back seat area, and you have to do some interesting fab work on the torsion bar tube along with running coil overs to make it happen.

the 951 (944 turbo) transaxle is strong enough to take 450-500hp from a v8 as long as your not launching or doing burnouts all the time.

I got as far as mocking up an 8.8 IRS center section and 944 rear suspension - the drive shaft has to run over the top of the torsion bar tube. This puts the axles at a steep angle. Or, the center of the torsion tube and torsion bars have to be cut out and the rear converted to coil overs. There are some pictures of the mockup in my build thread. For me the axle angles were a no go but others may be OK with it. Other makes of IRS center section might work better - I never researched.

Thanks for the info. with the power I am looking to make there is no way 951 gearbox is going to hold up.

Not sure what power levels you are considering, but a C5 Corvette transmission is also an option and may be less work, or at least no more work, than doing a RWD T5.

Around 800 and you are right, it's going to be alot of work either way. The more cost effective and the more weight I can keep off was the route I was going to take.

i dont think any way is going to be significantly more or less weight. however i think going with the corvette transaxle/torque tube is going to be less work overall and it will keep the weight balance of the car.

The vette trans and torque tube is not a bad deal to install just a bunch of fab work required. This unit fits like a glove. Have a look at my build thread. My trans and stuff is in . Custom mounts and a custom hoop for the Torsion unit. I used DOM seamless double tube. Nice and strong. Just my opinion.

Totally agree with Kevin about the Vette trans with torque tube. Fits so good. Although there is no straight forward way to go about the install and mounting feel free to check out my page for any ideas. I posted a bunch of pictures on how it was mocked up. Good luck.
