When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

3yr old rebuilt motor first start

Post  fantic on Sat Jan 28, 2017 6:59 pm

I have a motor that was rebuilt approximately 3 or 4 years ago. I'm new to the LS. On the old small blocks I would spin the oil pump with a tool in the distributor hole. Not sure how to prime the LS motor before the first start.

aside from cranking it on the starter, the only way to prime it is to use a pressure pot or a pump to pump the oil in through an oil galley plug. you can use the oil pressure sensor port.

Thanks. I had the valve covers and the intake off and there is still assembly lube on every thing. Should be good. Just wanted to be safe.

Mine only sat for 6 months before first start. What I did was pull the spark plugs, disconnect the coils and spin it with the starter until I had oil pressure. The hooked it all up real quick and it fired right up. Good luck.

That's what I'd do, even if I had a way to pressure fill it.
