HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Any more of these laying around for sale?

If not are the diagrams posted on page 1 accurate?

x2 on making more of these? I've made a CAD drawing of the adapter using the drawing, it's accurate according to the drawing. I have not personally made one, nor do I have the RX7 calipers to assure accuracy of it. I'd be interested if someone started a group buy, or I suppose I could start one. I'm a bit wary of doing so without verification that the measurements are accurate, nor without xschop's permission (considering these are his measurements, etc.) Anyway, the drawing is hosted on my Google Drive in different formats, if anybody could verify dimensions that'd be sweet.

xschop got back to me through PM and said he will not be making any more of these but that the diagrams posted were accurate.

Unfortunately I haven't bought the calipers yet either so I can't verify dimensions.

I was going to talk to some local machine shops to see what they would charge to make me a set (I'm located in San Diego, CA). If there are others interested I'm sure we can probably shop around and get a better deal with a group buy vs. having each set made individually.

osx86ftw feel free to PM me and hopefully we can find a deal on getting some made.

For anyone running the Audi S8 bigger blacks up front, I punched the numbers and these calipers are a better match on the rear for brake balance vs. any of the 944/951 caliper options.

ive got a set of these brackets from xschop, they fit perfect. as long as his measurements in the drawing are directly off the bracket itll be perfect.

Looks like I don't have the option to PM yet (this is only my second post.) I'm on the other end of the country in upstate NY, I don't have any specific machine shops in mind locally. I did get a quote from an online machine shop called xometry.com, just as a result of some Googling, they're pricing out at $61.54 a bracket for a quantity of 10, $86.96 a bracket for a quantity of 6. I'm in the midst of submitting some other online quotes while I'm here at work. But if we can get 5 people for a bracket that'd be a great price IMO. Do you have any specific shops in mind?

Where about are you located? I'm in Buffalo, NY and am having a local machine shop make some parts for me currently.

His name is Steve Quarcini - He owns his machine shop (Grand Niagara Machine), which is cool since he is willing to do some one-off/custom work without giving you hard time. His number is 716-698-5867 and email is quarcini@hotmail (dot) com.

Just let him know Earl recommended you - He is working on my strut adapter at the moment anyways. I just ended up sending him the drawings and whatnot.

Okay, I will keep him in mind. I'm assuming we have at least 2 interested people for brackets (including me), are there any other people that are interested?

I was very interested in this swap also, and went searching for the calipers. I can't find any parts store that has them in stock. I've checked Oreillys, Autozone, Carquest/Advance, Rockauto, and Worldpac. Nobody has them. These may have to be sourced from a salvage yard now.

I tried to place an order at Rockauto and it said I would be notified when they became available.

Actually good thing I did that, I was looking at some on amazon that were quite a bit pricier. I've gotten a few more quotes from machine shops online, xometry seems to be the best price (~$61 a bracket if we get a quantity of 10, so 5 people, plus whatever shipping costs etc.) The local machine shops I contacted did not reply to my emails (maybe they will in time, but doing so online is more convenient for me/not much time for phone conversations, and if they can really do it for $61 a piece I think that'd be hard to beat.) I do not mind setting this up and just covering shipping/supplies cost in the price (no profit, not looking to make any money off of this), as long as we can get at least 5 people together. I've not done something like this before, assuming approx $70 or so a bracket (again, shipping costs, etc), who would be interested?

-Nick

EDIT: I should also state that the drawing I have does not have the small "channels" cut out in the bracket as shown in xschop's earlier posts...I don't have any measurements on those so I can't really incorporate them into the drawing (unless somebody can get some measurements from an already existing bracket?) I had planned on just adding them with an angle grinder for my own personal brackets...so just FYI these won't have those cut out unless accurate measurements are found

Definitely count me in on this!

I don't think I could get it done locally for cheaper than that.

I'm interested in this too. I'm running LS430 calipers up front with stock rear turbo calipers out back. I've tried both 5/18 and 5/33 proportioning valve and I've always felt the rear lacked bias. I have an adjustable proportioning valve, but would really like to get the overall balance figured out first before I go down that road.

Sign me up for a set of these brackets, I decided to bite the bullet and start the hunt for some 16" phone dials. Good thing they only made them in 1986 with the 23.3 offset I need, would hate for the hunt to be too easy Smile

Awesome! Just need one more person in for a set of brackets...then we'll have enough for the 5+ discount
