HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Hello Guys
In the future I would like to replace my 1983 NA trans and was wondering what my options were for aftermarket trans? I also want to know where are you guys finding Turbo trans for a decent price? Thanks

Re: Sourcing a Turbo Trans AOR?
the aor comes out of a 1988 turbo s. you can try looking it up on www.car-part.com. other places would be to search through forums. some member here have a lot of parts, you can always put up a wanted ad, thats what i did and found one from a member here.
depending on what your doing with the car and what engine you have, there are other options aside from the aor. any turbo transmission is stronger and has the final drive ratio you want for a v8.

Re: Sourcing a Turbo Trans AOR?
I am open to suggestions on which transmission. I just want a transmission that can handle my power output. I currently have 325-350hp and down the road would like to shoot for 450-500hp. I have seen and read I should look for an AOR but if there are other good options that are as strong I'm ok with that too. Thanks

Re: Sourcing a Turbo Trans AOR?
the aor is the best for what your doing, however there are other options. all the aor has in the strength catagory over a regular turbo transaxle is 1st and 2nd gear are shot blasted (removes stress points). the other turbo transaxles are available with or without the lsd, and with or without the trans cooler. all the turbo transaxles have the same gear ratios.
the s, s2 and 89+ n/a have a transaxle thats nearly, if not as strong as the turbo transaxles, however the short final drive ratio makes it undesirable for a v8. they are the same ratio as you have now.
here is a chart with all the 944 transaxles listed. http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/trans-04.htm

Re: Sourcing a Turbo Trans AOR?
I just picked up a 5R for a hell of a deal (effectively $250 for the trans) the other week for my LS build. There is a LONG road ahead of me until I can find out how it does with the LS, but I plan on starting a thread here once I get some movement on the chassis. I plan on adding a small core to the oil cooler system, and checking out the factory LSD as I don't know the mileage on the transaxle.
