HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 4:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

So for some reason my right front brake wants to lock up before my left front. I'm running the BMW hydroboost with 944 master and brake bias regulator for the rear. All parts in the system are new, including the LS430 calipers. Any thoughts?

Dragging pistons in the caliper that lock up first?

Hmm, I'm not sure. How would I indentify that issue exactly?

Inspect the caliper piston seals. First thing to do is get the front wheels off the ground and spin the the wheel by hand see if the offending caliper is dragging. If it is the piston seals probably need to be replaced. Here is a link to get the seals https://www.zeckhausen.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=88_975_976_980 should you need them.

Thanks for the tip. Threw the car up on the lift and checked each front wheel. They both seem to be spinning freely. I did notice something else odd though. I took off each wheel to inspect the calipers more closely, and noticed my L caliper is off center on the rotor. The R caliper is evenly centered on the rotor. To clarify what I mean by "centered," i'm referring to there being equal distance between the rotor surface and pistons on the inboard and outboard side of the caliper pistons.

Any idea if this could be causing my problem? I didn't have my phone on me, but I'll get a pick tomorrow.

Could be. Take the pads out on the off center side and see if they are wearing evenly. At any rate the calipers should not be off center. Make sure you don't have a kinked brake line on that side, that could cause an issue too.

Good idea. I hadn't thought to trace the entire line just to be sure there's no kinks or anything else suspicious. Appreciate the input. I'll keep looking!
