HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

LSx Clutch Empty LSx Clutch

Post  944-LT1 Sun Oct 11, 2009 10:14 pm

Well, this is what Ive found during getting the clutch stuff. May help someone else.

The flywheel:
GM part number 12571611
This flywheel is steel and heavy @ 57 lbs. Its friction surface is 2.50" wide and the stock size clutch disc used on this flywheel is 11-7/16". However, nobody makes an 11-7/16" 23 spline by 1" disc. So the best Ive found is an 11" x1"-23 spline. A 12" disc wont fit either! What you CAN do is buy a 12" disc and then have a clutch shop shave it down to 11-7/16".

Flywheel torque sequence in star pattern:
Step 1 - 15 lb ft
Step 2 - 37 lb ft
Step 3 - 74 lb ft

The Pressure Plate:
GM part number 24248985, 24238412 what I used: 24233085
This was weird for me to see. There is a pre-install procedure that must be performed before installing these pressure plates which have a self adjusting mechanism within the pressure plate itself. Before installing the pressure plate, place the pressure plate in a press (plate surface down), apply pressure to the fingers with the press just enough so that you can take two screwdrivers (or similar) and turn the adjusting disk CCW. The self-adjusting disk is recognized by three small springs just outside of the center hole, these must be compressed by turning the internal disc. While holding tension with the screwdrivers, release pressure being held on fingers. Then install pressure plate. If you dont do this, the clutch will engage when the pedal is to the floor. The pressure plate will adjust itself during use.

Pressure plate torque sequence in star pattern:
Step 1 - 7 lb ft
Step 2 - 18 lb ft
Step 3 - 30 lb ft
Step 4 - 52 lb ft

Clutch Disc:
The clutch disc used is an 11 inch 23 spline with 1" diameter input shaft (280 OD x 165 ID x 23 spline x 25.4 shaft diameter).
LuK part number: LD4163
Bryco part number: 60210
Apra part numner: CD4163
Master part number: SMN15
Centerforce part number: 384070, 384163
Mcleaod part number: 260121
Chrysler OE part number: 3633883

Friction Facing material specs:
277.70mm OD x 165mm ID
Thickness: 3.50mm
Grooves: 30
Rivet pattern: 40DGAP
LuK part number: 319096130
Valeo part number: 145868

Difference between mopar discs and stock porsche discs.... the teeth!
Sorry no diagram.
The stock 944 porsche disc has 23 teeth that are 0.115" long (from trough to crest).
The mopar discs we have been using also have 23 teeth but are 0.085" long. This means that the mopar discs fit the 944 torque tube a bit looser than the stock porsche discs which may not be a problem....but maybe someone wants to know. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Check the group buy I mentioned in the for sale forum. I am pretty sure it is a kit with this flywheel and pressure plate, and a proper splined clutch disk.

Thanks Rob but I already bought all this junk. Laughing Shipping was a PITA expensive considering how heavy the flywheel is. Look out for that!!
