For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

I bought my car as a dropped project from the PO ( 86 951, with a 98 LS1 ) and I did not pull the original motor, so I do not know what went to the motor and does not need to be there any more. On the drivers side shock tower there is a black wire bundle that is about an inch in diameter, I am not sure if it is needed but would be great to be able to remove it if not needed, I assume it is for the lights etc. and is needed, is that correct or can it be removed ?

Also at the corner of the drivers side fender just in front of the fire wall is an assembly that has a vacuum line and a 1/2 inch+- line (blue / black cloth covering ) connected to it, it has a screw on it that makes me thing it was adjustable, what ever it is do I need it ?

Getting ready to run the wiring this weekend and supposedly the PCM and harness were modified at TPC, the PCM does have a TPC sticker on it, I have not been able to get any reply on the phone or email ( I believe there is a problem connecting from their site ). I assume that when they set up for the O2 sensors they use the fronts and eliminate the rears, does that sound reasonable ?

I assume all of the cags, back up lights, rear o2 sensors and items like that can be terminated and closed out with shrink tubeing ?

I don't know about others, but my car does not have a big bundle on the driver side shock tower... Looking at google images I don't see stock 944's with a bundle there either. The PO might have added it or it came only on certain 944 variants from the factory.

One way to be sure what the harness is setup for is to see what connectors you have... but it's very likely the rear O2 sensors were deleted and depending on your area the front may be deleted as well. I'll let someone who's had TPC do the work comment on what's "normal" for them to do.

Are you talking about removing factory 944 wiring or ls wiring?

the wire bundle on the shock tower runs almost at the same height as the header and runs to the rear corner of the coolant tank and then heads down under the car, it's pretty close to the header so I am worried about melting it, I may be able to reroute it some but if it is not needed I would like to remove it, I am pretty sure it is a factory harness as it is held and formed to pick up the Porsche tie down points with the factory stud mounted tie wraps. At worst I will move it as far away from the header as possible and wrap it in header wrap.

As for the o2 sensors both front and rear connectors are in place on the harness, I am planning on using the front set and not the rears.

And yes I am referring to the LS1 harness for the cags etc.

The wire harness is the stock 944 harness for the headlights, headlight motor, washer pump, etc. There should be wiring in there for the stock 944 coil, AC, turbo coolant pump, fans and a few other things. When I redid my wiring, I removed all the wires from that harness that I wasn't going to use and then routed the harness to the other side of the shock tower, tucking it between the coolant tank and the fender.

For the PCM, I had mine done by TPC as well and Eric basically just removed all the emissions and traction stuff, and set it up for front O2s only.

The item you mention, with the screw adjustment, is one of the evap canister purge valves.
I have kept this system intact.

The bundle on the shock tower is as mentioned all of the lights etc., I was able to re route it and get it away from the header so I think that will work. Just wish there was more info on what TPC id to the harness but that info was not passed along from the PO if he had anything.
Thank you for the help, we are slowly coming along, hope to have it running next weekend.
