HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Dose someone have the info in the thread pitch and diameter on the bolts? I'm wanting to order the longer bolts for the spacers. I need the 3 sizes (crossmember, control arm, swaybar)

Hey Matt,

Personally Mic'd
All Factory lengths

X-member 4ea..... M12 x 1.5 x 75 mm
Rear Control arm 4ea.... M10 x 1.5 x 65 mm
Sway bar stabilizer 4ea... M8 X 1.25 x 25 mm

Add to 3rd dimension (mm) according to your spacer thickness when ordering....

If you order from Fastenal, get some Vaseline with your purchase. M12 x1.5 are gold especially at that length.
What thickness spacers will you run?

I remember that I had to place a minimum of 50ea box of the M12x1.5 at almost $100 from Allied.

What is the total for the Bolt Depot tab? Other members should log in with their sources and totals, would help everyone.

I thought the LT1 fit. You said so...
I remember you posting something fantastic about the uprights, and even a pic of the throttle body...

Why the spacers now? Different car?
Shorten the uprights, or just trim the hood rib.
That much spacer is gonna bite ya, Matt.

'splain yo-sef, man.

Lemme guess....Line-Bored the Front control arm inserts upwards? HeHe
Whatever the case, folks doing the swap should calculate $30 just for the extended bolts no doubt.
Hey Greg, where's that P-car Crash Test Dummy Pic? Razz

Nice catch Greg

My old 944 was a 12/84 build date and it was a black car. I picked up the 84 944 euro market from eric aka the white one. And it was a better start for the swap. So I sold the black car and started building the white one. So its true all cars are not the same Shocked. I used the same crossmember that the test fit was done in the new car and the tb will not clear the hood. Also why 3/4 of a inch well I want to use the factory GM a/c compressor so the frame needs to be notched for clearance(well boxed back in). Below is pics of the test fit without shims

Hey Matt, is the rear driver's side head to firewall distance the same as you did the comparison between the two cars?
If so, the theory has been put to rest for me.

Crossmember spacer bolts Empty 1 Moe Time...

Post  gt1scca Thu Mar 25, 2010 2:58 pm

No spacers.
Not on an LT1.
Here's why I say that:

1986 Turbo crossmember / 944hybrids uprights / ES 3-1114R Mounts / LT1 stock windage tray

Crossmember spacer bolts Img_9710

1.0" clearance between crossmember and main cap bolt w/ windage tray

Crossmember spacer bolts Img_9711

12.0" required cut length on oil pan (or to sump, whichever is easier)

Crossmember spacer bolts Img_9712

I don't have exact dimensions for the shortened LT1 uprights yet, but I will. Basically, shorten the uprights .50", trim the oil pan to match, and the hood closes with .50" space left between the oil pan and crossmember. There is room to work with here, and all it takes is a little time and patience.

Still skeptical? I'll prove it over the next few weeks with my car..
No spacers, no rack lowering, very little, if any, hood-rib trimming.

Manual rack.

The manual rack sits flush with the top of the crossmember. Power rack peeps above it, but I haven't measured how much yet. With that said, maybe I should re-clarify - a full .50" drop probably will not be possible with power steering. I'll know exactly how much is possible this weekend.

I haven't posted the PS rack F/S yet, but I will soon. Clean as a whistle...not a drop of fluid visible, even inside the TR boots. There's another one sitting in that parts car, but I don't think it'll be removed any time soon. That '87 is a heap...

Greg

yea its a super clean setup. So forgive me mine is a lil dirty. The pan in the pic needs more modding for the ps rack but the windage tray bolts are still in this setup (aka a little dimples) and I plan on running the stock a/c ps alt bracket modded for the small alt. My motor mounts are the advanced auto pn# 2142 with admin's motor mounts. In the future I plan on pulling the windage tray bolts out and have no tray.
