HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

The new solo car is finally done. Not in time to run this season but, complete. Here is a little teaser, I'll post more in the coming week.

I had been eagerly watching your build and I am glad to see it finished. The car is an excellent display of skills and ability.  Sounds mean as well. Good job and I hope you do well with it.
I would have liked to have seen a simple weld-in roll bar. Harness bars are too risky for my taste.

Your kind words are appreciated.
If the car ever is used for anything other than Solo racing, it will be caged.

Did you also make your own trans crossmember? Or did you box it in? I don't remember how the factory piece looks off the top of my head.

I boxed the factory. Also using the "Super" mount available from Pelican (at least it used to be).

So, I had a small engine issue. One of the CNC ported heads I used had a flaw in the casting. Here is the story...
This is the third engine I've built using Texas Speed & Performance components. Not only have the parts been great, so has the customer service. Their handling of this problem has been no exception.
This engine is using the PRC 5.3L stage 2.5 CNC'd heads. Used for the small chamber size.
While inspecting after initial start-up a puddle of coolant in the #2 plug bore caught my attention. Hoping I'd just spilled a small amount of coolant when filling(although I knew I hadn't) it was cleaned and left to sit overnight. The next morning I had a new puddle. Damn.

Called Texas Speed and even though it had been over a year since I purchased the heads I was taken care of. After confirming the flaw, I was sent a new head, gasket, and bolts.

All back together. Spring can't come soon enough.

You have an amazing car. Beautiful build.
Kudos to Texas Speed and Performance. I have used them a few times myself.

Good to know they stand behind their work.  They are where I have been planning to send my heads once I find time to pull the engine apart.

I have read a little on transaxle supports and I was wondering if you saw any benefits from bracing it and also any negative side to it?

Are you just running coilovers? or torsion bar also?

I also like your painted hood vents, what brand are they?

Awesome build!

The transaxle supports were recommended by numerous fellow racers. The trans tends to rotate under heavy load largely dependent upon the type mount used. It was found that the rotation was causing CV joint issues (sometimes catastrophic). I've used the "super" mount from Pelican and the supports pictured. Because my seat time is limited to date in the car, I can't give an honest opinion on the performance.
Coilovers- Yes, all four, no torsion bars.
Hood vents- The hood is a one-off I've made. The vents are not applied, they are part of the hood that weighs 12lbs.
