HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Power Steering Install
Reading through all the posts has been a great help for me in getting to know my new LS1 project and in the host of it helping someone else, thought I'd share this project
I'm using a turn one pump. Nothing fancy with the install and didn't think pictures were needed. I made my own high pressure hose using Aeroquip teflon -06AN hose. Yes, a little more expensive but very easy to work with and smaller OD than the rubber hose. I wanted to secure the hose to keep it from rubbing and tapped a M6 hole for a clamp into the alternator.

This was the hardest part and I played around with a few designs that I'd seen other people do. Didn't like any of them and came up with a combination of 12mm banjo to -6 and then -6 90deg ends for both the high pressure and low pressure hoses. Low pressure is just a barbed AN fitting with 3/8 transmission hose. For the high pressure, you want to use steel fitting - not the aluminum.
This picture is still a test fitting (steering couple not attached and oil cooler line pinched between the block) but gives you an idea. The lines are out of the way of the exhaust and other tight areas.

Picture of the cooler mounted just in front of the front wheel and vented though the fog light hole - a Derale 13309. Nothing fancy but since my car is a track car decided it needed one and the AN fittings to help with the 90deg bend that's needed.
Note - the supply is on the bottom and hose back to the reservoir is on top. This is done to push the air bubbles out. This cooler can not be mounted 90deg off this position or it will trap air (at least that's what I've been told be people I trust)

Hope this helps someone else along the way. Please post some comments if you see something I've missed/done wrong

Re: Power Steering Install
Nice lookin' setup. Can you post your source and part # for those 12mm banjo to AN -6 fittings?
I assume you'll throw a clamp on the hose barb at the rack like you have done at the cooler.
Thanks,
Rich

Hey Rich
Good eye, that was the hard piece to find! I didn't think a banjo to AN fitting existed until I found the them on the the hydratech web site as part of a kit.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I think I ordered them from here though [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
I'll add a reminder to anyone reading this to replace the copper crush washers on the banjo bolts
Yes, once final alignments are done hose clamps will be on all barbed fittings as ATF makes hoses slide off quiet easily!

What is the male fitting thread size and seat profile on the Camaro Power steering pump high pressure output port?

Re: Power Steering Install
Nice job on those banjo fittings. I couldn't find them anywhere. I was using a set of straight fittings there but now that I know where to get ahold of these I'm going to change it up. Thanks!

I believe it's 16mm x1.5 o-ring. I bought one of these but haven't tried it yet.

Re: Power Steering Install
Thanks Rich that looks like the ticket. Where to get pre-made -6an PS line?
The 928 rack will need a 14mm banjo to -6an

Re: Power Steering Install
Russell or Aeroquip make easy to install -6AN power steering hose and fittings. The hose is teflon inside braided SS. I used a bunch of Russell stuff for my hydroboost install.

Re: Power Steering Install
Hey guys -
So far, those AN-> banjo fittings are holding up great. No issues at all but again, don't reuse the crush washers. I made up my own high pressure hose and found the cheapest source to be amazon. What you see here is Aeroquip teflon hose and two Aeroquip FCM1122 hose ends for the 90deg turns. The low pressure stuff is 3/8 trans cooler hose

Re: Power Steering Install
anybody remember the thread and source for the non stock (hex instead of allen) banjo bolts at the rack?
Should be either 12mm x 1.25 or 1.5 but not entirely sure. My stock allen heads are toast...just about stripped with channel lock marks on them...ehh time for an upgrade.

Re: Power Steering Install
I have the high pressure hose with the Banjo bolt that goes from the reservoir/pump to the rack if you want it. $25.00 shipped and it will just bolt right on.

Power Brake Service has everything hose or bolt related to hydroboost installations.

Re: Power Steering Install
If it makes it easier, AN fittings are more commonly refered to as JIC fittings (the 37* variant). They are used for hydraulics commonly. When you're looking for something sort of rare, searching for JIC or AN can make finding parts easier.
