For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Ls2 with standard 951s transmission? Empty Ls2 with standard 951s transmission?

Post  pa951 Wed Mar 11, 2015 12:56 pm

Would a standard 951s gearbox with lsd be able to handle the ls2 power? 400hp and 400lb torque?

Or should i have extra's added for strength?

I would think it will be fine. Many people run the 951 Tranny with no issues.

My 383 stroker LSx makes over 500hp and 500ft lbs. No issues with the stock AOR, 5 track seasons.

Just would not want the cv or transmission to blow up on the first burnout i accidentally make Rolling Eyes

Will make a solid mount from gearbox to chassis on driverside. That should help somewhat i guess?

And getting the na fifth gear installed. For cruising the highway.

Doc, he's asking about trans longevity. You have not put 500hp through your trans for 5 seasons. You were at what, 400 rwhp for the last 2 seasons? And wasn't it the stock turbo motor before that?

And for "accidental burnouts"... it'll be CVs that you shred doing that.

Car had 375rwhp for 2 years, then 400rwhp for two more years than 425rwhp/410ft lbs for another year.

So five years total on the AOR, with 450-500+hp, no transmission issues. Plenty of other stuff breaking tho

Right on. Good test of the AOR. What do you run for axles? Any trouble? I blew up my original 944 axles and switched to VW van axles with type2 joints and it's been solid. Seems to be all about getting the bolts in there clean and tight.

If you drive it like an idiot you will blow the transmission. A friend drove my car and spun the fixed third gear on the shaft. The failure could be blamed on a 135K transaxle or his aggressive shifting technique. In his defense, he won a GT1 SCCA championship and knows what he is doing but shifts everything like they have straight cut gears.

There is a difference between driving like an idiot and a bit of playing Cool perhaps i'm to scared. I only want to be able to make a good sometimes smoky start. And a good drive on the autobahn playing with its brothers and sisters.

I think the most important thing is that you roll on the throttle, it just cant handle shock loads like a T56! Hard standing starts is what will really kill the transmission and your CV joints quickly.

Dunno. I don't cruise at 90-95mph. At 80mph I'm seeing just about 3000rpm with the NA fifth gear swap.
