HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Finally Going To Do It!!!!! Empty Finally Going To Do It!!!!!

Well, after a few years of talking sh*t about converting my S2 I think (talking sh*t again, lol) I am going to do it! I went from me doing it, then me and a couple of friends going to tackle it. Now I am just going to send my car to Eric. I bought a front end air splitter last month from him and we had a nice conversation about the swap. He said if and when I get more serious just give him a call and he would send me a price break down. I ran it by my boss (wife) and she said "I don't care", so I called Eric today and asked for that breakdown.

Here was my dilemma for taking so long. I kept asking my self do I want to spend the money for the conversion or sell my S2 and buy something else. I really LOVE the 944 except for it not being real fast. After all the years I have had my car I can stand back look at it and still be in love with the body lines. I don't mean just my car I love ALL 944 & 924 cars. I don't have the room for more then 1 hobby car so I can't just buy up cars to sit around. So, because I really love my little S2 the right thing to do in my situation is make a car I love into a power monster and have the perfect car, then join in on the fun with the rest of you.

I want to thank all that answered my questions over the past couple of years. It's nice to have a place to go and get answers for questions from nice people that have done it! I especially want to thank Dawgz for everything. He was a member of another forum that answered many 944 questions for me. A guy with a treasure chest of knowledge.

I know who the chief of the family is. My wife carries my nuts in her pocket and when I get out of line all she does is put her hand in her pocket and squeeze a little then I straighten up real quick! Shocked

Well congrats. I was in the same boat as you. I was going to take on the conversion but since some drunk decided that my daily driver would look nicer off the road and up against a tree, I now have begun to consider just letting them tackle my conversion for me.

I wasn't aware they had a price break down though. Now I will have to message them about it.

I already bought my wife a new car so she told me she doesn't care what I do for a project car.

Yea, I have been wanting to put a LS1 in my car for a while and I was contemplating on doing it myself because at the time I thought Renegade was the only place that did the conversion and they are what seems expensive. Then I ran across this site a couple if years ago and never really asked how much to have it done because I thought it was going to be more of the same. So I kept dreaming of doing it myself. After talking with Eric not to long ago I figured I'm not getting any younger so I better do it now before I get to old and feeble to enjoy such a ride. So as of right now I have bought a engine out of a 04 GTO and it's being sent to Eric's shop. I think I'm going to have a blast with this car when it's done. It's going to be funny watching all the young guys wondering what the h*lls wrong with this old man as I rip by them in my little 4 cylinder toy, lol.
lol!

Well, looking forward to seeing the progress pics if they post them.

I roller NA model now seems like a poor choice and I might have to rethink things and find an S model or turbo to use. That is unless a trans swap and turbo brake upgrade are reasonable enough to allow me to go through with using the 86 NA model.

With a tranny swap and hydro boost brakes you will be fine for 99% of street use. ( alcohol takes the other 1% ) Razz
Even with NA calipers the hydroboost setup will plant you in the windshield if you have good pads! Cool

Sounds like I should be fine after all.

Can't wait to get the conversion done, even if a car accident changed how I will have to go about it.

Finally Going To Do It!!!!! Empty I finally have one!!!

Well its been a long road on my part.  From a crazy lady pulling out of a strip mall and totaling my S2 Cab 2 weeks before I was going to send it to Eric for a conversion.  Then I replaced it with a 968 Cab that I was going to have Eric convert but to many people convinced me to leave that low mile survivor as is and not convert it.  I then purchased a 28k mile 1980 308GTSi because it was such a great deal I could not pass it up and I am glad I did because they are starting to escalate in value.

After about 3 months of emailing back and forth with a member, RogueS2.  I didn't find out he was a member until I picked the car up yesterday and it wouldn't be appropriate to give his last name without him giving his OK, but his first name is David from Texas.  We met when he put his car up for sale last year on Ebay.  Some of the old timers might know the car by description.  Its a white 91 S2 coupe with chrome turbo twist rims and a black Porsche stripe and name along the bottom doors and a Porsche LS1 just above the rear bumper and below the tail lights. I will post some pictures of the car when I get a chance to take some.

The car is just amazing With about 8K miles on the conversion and it has been done first class from the aluminum radiator to the rear tail pipe.  The final touch was Eric installed a new hydro boost system on it not too long ago, like a month or so.  Most of the parts were from Renegade Hybrids ( radiator, installation kit, flywheel, clutch, bell housing, ceramic headers and other things that I am forgetting) just because when the conversion started he didn't know anything about Eric.  Everything on that car has been gone through engine, torque tube, transmission, Koni coil-over suspension, new paint and rubber.  Eric did his magic on the rear suspension so David could install the fat turbo twist rims and keep them within the fenders.  I plan on doing a few changes on it like installing the GTS headlights that 924-76 were building and used my 944S2 for the test car.  The front splitter I bought from Eric.   The European rear bumper that came off of my old car.  The clear front running and turn signal lenses also.  The ONLY thing that David didn't do and he didn't know about it until I asked him was the transmission reinforcement plate that Eric makes.  I will do that when the weather turns for the better this spring.

When I got home last night and my wife saw it she loved it and wasn't so upset at me.  She first told me that I had to get rid of the 968 or 308 because she didn't want the house to look like a used car lot, but she said I can keep all 3. So I am a very happy man this morning. It's been a long time coming but I finally have my 944 V8.

The best thing for me is that I have a great sorted car.  My hat goes off to ALL of you members that have done the conversion your self.  It really is a BIG undertaking to do it right without making it a hack job.
