HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.
Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin
For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Turn One pump bearing noise
Hi all,
I've got my LS1 84 944 on the road.....and what a blast!! This thing has exceeded all my expectations and has been my DD for 2 months. Engine is a well built 02 LS1 with 450 RWHP, S2 transaxle, and BMW hydroboost. The only bug I need to sort out is the Turn One pump has a bearing squeal above 2000rpm that is really annoying. I need to sort this out quick as I really only have a month to drive it before it goes away for an extended period (NO, I'm not going to prison!! lol). What makes the Turn One pump unique for this application? Is it only the pressure valve and, if so, can I replace it with a stock GM pump and just reuse the Turn One valve?? Thanks for all your help with this project and for your continuing support!!
ciao,
Gord.

Re: Turn One pump bearing noise
As I understand it, the internals of the pump differ to change the way excess pressure is managed to prevent overheating the fluid inside the reservoir at high RPM. For a street car, a stock GM pump is supposed to be fine. I've just upgraded to a Turn One pump after experiencing that overheating on the track but have yet to test with the new pump. Good luck.

Hmm, not sure what the deal is. I've had my Turn 1 pump for 4 years and 4 track seasons with no issues. Have you called Turn 1?

Re: Turn One pump bearing noise
Hi Doc,
I haven't called Turn1 yet, but they likely won't do anything for me since I modified their pump. I have a BMW hydroboost so I run the pump without the internal reservoir. It is instead plumbed to a large BMW reservoir. I tapped the inlet with 1/2 NPT, insuring no chips entered the pump (used a rubber stopper in the pump inlet and tapped it up side down). I can't imagine this mod is causing a bearing squeak. The car sounds absolutely amazing, but this squeak is really bad now.

Re: Turn One pump bearing noise
sorry to hijack your thread but could you id the items in your LS1 that allowed for 450 rwhp?
Thanks
Jpr
BTW, I was having steering pump whine until I got racing power steering fluid and it has all but eliminated it. This was on a stock pump however.
Thanks
