HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

can any one tell me.

1) what do I need to do to convert the LM7 from automatic to manual trans ie pilot bearing fly wheel and clutch?

2) What dose the vss kit from TPC actually dose is it mandatory for my build?

answer to these questions could save me 3 months of research thanks

Just as you stated, Flywheel, clutch, pilot bearing and disc, That's what you need to go from an auto to standard. Also will need ECU programing to get rid of the trans fault codes.
VSS tell the ECU that the car is moving. needed for some of the ECU functions, Could have driveabilty issues without it.

But were does it go. and were can I get some really clear instructions on this swap... I been buying parts sporadically . My plan is 5.3l lm7 rebuilt with ls7 cam ls6 springs and an ls1intake I am going to go with power steering. and hydraulic brake booster. My wiring is going to be stand alone.

VSS? were dose it go. I was thinking it was the crank sensor that already comes in my engine.

i just ordered my clutch plate with the 944 splines and spacers. i ordered the motor mounts a few months ago. my next move is the oil pan and the relocation block but there are no clear instructions on how to do this

The vss replaces the original vss on the 944 engine witch was on the flywheel instead now its going to be on the tranny between the cv joint and the tranny.. am i close

The new vss will work with the LS computer and the best place to put it being non German is on the trans. works like a crank sensor just a different part of the new system.

The advanced search will bring up several good threads, like this one.

I have had my car setup both with and without VSS; idle and driveability is far better with VSS.

The reluctor wheel/sensor on the crank is the crankshaft speed sensor (engine speed). There is also a camshaft position sensor on the cam. The PCM uses the cam sensor to determine where #1 cyl TDC is and then uses crankshaft speed to fire the coils and injectors according to firing order. The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) needs to be added since the 944 doesn't offer one. The PCM uses VSS, mass air flow sensor (MAF) and throttle positioning sensor to determine load and smooth out operation of the engine (drive ability). You'll need all of them for a smooth running engine.
