HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Hi guys,I'm sure some will know me from rennlist.

I'm at point where I'm considering a trans swap. I've broken a few turbo boxes this year and I'm frankly tired of it Sad

I drag race the car regularly (I know) so it gets abused pretty hard. I've been running consistent low 11s at over 130 so it makes a bit of power. I have to launch it pretty easy to even think about keeping the turbo box intact. Unfortunately that has kept my ET's pretty crappy for the MPH. i've also been running lower boost to keep from breaking in second. (friend is working on a speed based boost controller that should help).

Lately, I've been trying to compete in the Colorado street outlaws races. Unfortunately, they are 1/8 mile, so I starting catching at the end of the track. But, come up just short for the top 15 since they are now really prepping the surface (which really helps the drag cars, and kills my usual advantage)

I am considering a few options:

1) 968 trans, however, it appears the gearing is going to be way to short for my 1/4 mph. (expect to be close to 140 this year). My other concern is that it is not exactly cheap or easily attainable.

2) 944 auto... still researching the strength. Obviously I'd need to address the torque converter to spool the turbo. Or use a small amount of nitrous to light it off.

3) passat diesel euro 6 spd..

4) corvette conversion

I'm certainly not looking to ruffle any feathers about powerplants. I have just realized that there really aren't many running anywhere near my power levels and figure that a V8 swap forum may help.

I've really taken a liking to the CSO program and my car seems to have a decent following. So I'm going to try to keep competing.

Thanks all

If your thinking about an LS swap...why the turbo? Gobs of low end torque comes standard.

btw..the 944 automatic (modified) has been used in dragsters.

Sorry for the confusion.

Not looking at an LS swap quite yet. Just need a stronger transaxle for the current setup. I'm running the turbo 4. It makes plenty of torque really (appx 620 lbft). But, if I do ever swap to an LS, it would definitely be turbocharged.

Any links to the auto trans usage?
