HOW TO DO AN ADVANCED SEARCH.

Mon Jul 08, 2013 3:56 pm by Admin

For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.

When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).

After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Post by smither944 on Wed Sep 17, 2014 7:52 pm

Shocked hi newish to the forum,  Im  running in to a small issue , my car is a 86 944 , Currently has a sbc with twin turbos, pushing about 460 to 490hp on 8 psi.  also just tore the ring and pinnon out of the transaxle, and it was a lsd. Is there any other trans options?? Other than a turbo lsd trans. sorry about the spelling, bad typer. Also a very good fabricator.Trying to post a pic.

What is the car being used for, daily driver, drag racer, etc?

Turbo LSD is what most are using, but if you are a good fabricator, you can install the TT and transaxle from a Z06, or throw in a quaife transmission.

Search around for Admin's first car. It had an engine mounted trans and a Ford 9" rear, IIRC.

You’ve certainly got the cool factor going. Show and bragging rights make up the rest of a “street machine”. I’ve been a long time proponent and participant of “car crafting”. The original run what you brung hobby where a builder expresses his ideas with skill as to what a street machine is. With that said, you tell us what trans it should have. A nine inch locker and 4/5 speed manual would be better if you hit 650 HP but you won’t likely hook it up on the street anyway. Drag racing? Then powerglide with a nine inch spool. If you want it to still handle like a sports car then stay with a transaxle but never ever swap feet very hard.

There isn't a T5 in the world that will take that kind of power.

Pretty much all you can do is swap in a Corvette transaxle (very difficult) or a regular transmission behind the engine (very bad option because the tunnel is structural in these cars and normal transmissions don't fit in it).

So pretty much you're just stuck with a Turbo transaxle, but even then, those won't hold up to much more than ~425 horsepower. That is why nobody builds really high HP 944's...

I didnt think they made a serious t5 ether.. a buddy says it would. Is there a lot of tunnel mods required?? What about a tremmic 5 or 6 speed of sorts?? Thanks for all the interest . Very Happy

They've made some pretty decent T5's but they top out in the 300-something horsepower range. They are a small and relatively light transmission, you just can't beef them up enough. The T56 (Corvette, Viper, etc. 6-speed) can be made plenty strong but again, nothing fits in the Porsche's tunnel because it wasn't made to fit a transmission.

The transmission thing has been discussed a lot on here, you should search around and see what people have done. For the most part people just give up and install a Turbo transmission and hope for the best, though...
