For the benefit of 944Hybrids users there are two search functions available for you to use.
The purpose of this sticky is to explain the "Advanced Search" function because it is much more powerful and is the best choice when researching information.
When you log on to the site a list of options is shown in a line at the top of the page. One option is labelled "Search", use this option (NOT the search box lower down on the right).
After you click on the upper search option, a drop down box appears. At the bottom of this box is a radio button marked "Advanced …

Manual brake pedal arm modification

I drilled the early brake pedal arm up .75inches to use manual brakes. The power brake pin is 10mm but the pedal was drilled out to 11.11mm. So there is a little slack around the clevis pin, is that ok?
The power brake clevis is wider than the early brake pedal, do I need to make a spacer or can it just be left empty on the sides? Thanks, for any help.

i would make some spacers for it . i don't like play when i build things it tends to cause premature where . but thats just me !

That should be easy enough to make spacers. How about the hole for the clevis pin being 11.11 with the pin being 10mm? It may be overkill to worry about that but I don't want to take it out later.

Your pedal will feel loose if you drilled that hole 7/16" and will wear out quick. You may have to find a 7/16" dowel and insert into the pedal and cotter pin the clevis after drilling it 7/16"
EDIT: No welding involved with the brake clevis cause it is double sided.....
The point is you are increasing the pushrod pivot to pedal distance and multiplying the looseness/play at the pedal by 5 or 6 times if you allow any slop.....

Could I get a steel bushing/sleeve with a 10mm ID and cut it the width of the power brake clevis pin? Then all I would need to do is drill the same hole to accept the sleeve and tack it so it doesn't move.

That's using your noggin'. Install with some axle grease to keep it quiet.
P.S. Just did the calcs and if you can mic the 944 pin ( assuming it is worn after all these years) it may insert into a 0.375 (3/8") bore and Ace hardware has an asortment you could grind off the ends to fit the inner clevis....JAT

You should leave this as is because I think Porsche did this to make up for the differences in the pedal/clevis to firewall/booster mounting hole location variances during assembly.....remember the X-member to hood differences LOL?

Just in case someone searches, 3/8" did not fit the pin. Going to order a 10.3 mm (.406 in)ID sleeve from McMaster-Carr. I am going to get two and modify the power brake pedal up one inch so I can try them both out and see which one I like better.

Also 25/64" can be used to drill the pedal if you don't have a 10mm drill bit. Done it before when a 10mm HSS bit the dust on a steel piece awhile back.

Ya know it may have been easier to start from stratch with SAE standard parts. The metric system is great but sometimes I wonder it's worth the hassle.

Metric is less confusing on the fly. It also bases mass,volume, and distance on one universal standard whereas the king's foot wasn't very accurate standard lol.

Part number 8486A91 Metric Steel Press-fit Drill Bushing, 10 Mm Id, 15 Mm Od, 12 Mm Length from McMaster-Carr is perfect fit for the solid and the hollow brake pedals. Fits the pin and the clevis perfectly. Just in case anyone else searches for this.

Japanees cars. You need 10 12 15 17 19
German cars. You need 10 13 15 17 19
GM cars. You need 10 11 12 14 15 16 17 18 19 just to start.
There is nothing standard about using the metric system like that. And if you work with brake bleeders in metric you better have six point wrenches.
I'm not anti-metric, but I think that the word starndard should mean standard. Before the 1970's SAE was the Standard, no one cared because everything worked very well.

Actually you are referring to OLD German, now you need the following... 5.5, 6, 7,8,10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 18, 19, 21, 24, 30, E8, E10, E12, T10, T15, T20, T25, T30, T40, T45, T47, T50, Allen: 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12... And thats just basic day to day Porsche Stuff... Dont get me started with special tools...

I just finished putting the pedal in. It fits great. I can't describe how much fun it was putting the return spring back on.
